Max Castillo pitched five innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five in Kansas City’s loss in Cleveland on Sunday.
Castillo gave up one run in the 1st inning before serving up a six-spot in the 2nd inning. Castillo then did not allow a Cleveland base runner after that, retiring the side in order in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th inning while recording strikeouts on two of the final three batters he faced. Castillo finishes the regular season with an 0-2 record and a 5.95 ERA between Toronto and Kansas City but both losses came with the Royals and he carried a 9.16 ERA across five appearances (4 starts) for Kansas City. There will most likely be new faces on the coaching staff next season and Castillo has a lot of work to do in the offseason to earn a spot on the 2023 Opening Day roster for Kansas City but he has a lot of potential, big innings aside.
