Jimmy Rollins batting lead-off again, for now

by Eric Westlund | Sun, Aug 2nd 8:09pm EDT

With All-Star rookie Joc Pederson mired in a horrible slump, manager Don Mattingly has installed Jimmy Rollins back as the Dodgers' lead-off hitter for the last four games. Rollins had not batted lead-off since April 28. After Sunday's 2-for-5 effort, Rollins is batting .333 (6-for-18) with two runs, zero walks, and one strikeout in those four games.

Fantasy Impact:

Rollins has spent most of his career as a lead-off hitter, which apparently gives Don Mattingly the idea that he should still occupy that role with his .272 OBP, though almost literally any other Dodger would be a better fit. Howie Kendrick has a high-contact approach and a .335 OBP and would be a more sensible placeholder until Pederson or Puig come out of their slumps. For fantasy owners, Rollins certainly gets a bump from moving up in the order, and he has also found a bit of power lately with three home runs since the All-Star break.
