Gio Gonzalez allows one run in loss to Mets on Friday

by Rose Ingberman | Mon, Aug 3rd 7:54am EDT

Gio Gonzalez struck out the first two batters in the fifth inning, but after a double and a single, and with Gio's pitch count at 105, manager Matt Williams took him out. The reliever allowed one of the inherited runners to score, but the Nats eventually tied the game, giving Gio a no-decision--then lost in extra innings.

Fantasy Impact:

This was the first time since June 4 that Gio (8-4, ERA 3.75) walked four batters, which probably contributed to the quick hook. He has steadily lowered his ERA (at 4.94 on May 19), so he is a solid fantasy play IF he can limit the walks.
