Sizzling 2B Ian Kinsler keeping Cabrera-less Detroit afloat

by Julius Bzozowski | Thu, Aug 13th 3:08pm EDT

Ian Kinsler sparked a rally for Detroit on Wednesday night, as the struggling Tigers got a much needed win versus the AL Central-leading Kansas City Royals. Kinsler, hitting in the three-hole with Miguel Cabrera out, went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

Fantasy Impact:

Kinsler is hitting .379 over the past seven days, and is now seventh in the American League in runs scored. In the process, he has raised his average to .300 for the season (25 points above his career average). While the power numbers are not there yet this year (just six home runs), his production should only increase with the news of Miguel Cabrera expected to return to the lineup Friday. Cabrera's presence and protection for the other batters in the lineup cannot be overstated. A consistently good fantasy producer at a weak position, Kinsler could be a valuable asset to trade for down the stretch if you can swing it. Do not be surprised if Kinsler really takes off in the next month with the return of Cabrera and Detroit's playoff hopes on the line.
