C.J. Wilson opts for season ending surgery

by Jamison Malasko | Thu, Aug 13th 10:30pm EDT

Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson will have season-ending surgery to remove bone spurs in his ailing left elbow. Angels manager Mike Scioscia announced Wilson's decision before Thursday night's game against the Royals in Kansas City. Los Angeles began the day two games back of the Houston Astros in the AL West and 1 1/2 games up on the Tampa Bay Rays for the final wild-card spot. (espn.com)

Fantasy Impact:

This is a huge blow for a team that is right in the thick of a playoff race. Wilson was not having the best year as he was 8-8 with a 3.69 ERA in 21 starts but will be missed most is the veteran presence on that pitching staff. Wilson should be able to come back in the spring barring any setbacks.
