Alex Avila relegated to backup duty

Alex Avila seems to have lost his grip on the starting catcher job for Detroit, as he has started just eight games there since July 10. He has been thoroughly outplayed by James McCann and is hitting just .173 this season. (The Detroit News)
Fantasy Impact:
The Tigers are playing for the future at this point, and McCann is probably the better player right now anyway. If you were for some reason still holding onto Avila, he can and should be dropped in all formats, except perhaps the deepest of dynasty leagues.
