Jonathon Niese gets win despite being used as a Jugs Machine by Rockies

by Nick Ritrivi | Sun, Aug 23rd 8:54am EDT

For the second straight night, the Mets offense erupted in Coors Field; and for the the second straight night, the Mets' starting pitcher couldn't give the Mets' pen some much needed rest. This time, Jonathon Niese was staked to a 14-3 lead after the Mets' batted in the 5th. Niese promptly allowed the Rockies to close the gap to 14-7, after a Charlie Blackmon 2-run HR, before being removed in the 6th inning with only one out. The Mets did go on to win 14-9 for the second straight night.

Fantasy Impact:

After this shellacking in which he yielded seven ERs in 5.1 IPs (to go along with 11 hits and two walks), Niese now holds a 3.80 ERA and 1.34 WHIP on the season. He did record the win and improved to 8-9 on the season. Niese had actually been pitching better of late and does hold some streaming value in deeper leagues depending on the matchup.
