Evan Longoria swats homer in Rays defeat

by Mike Werner | Thu, Aug 27th 12:41am EDT

Evan Longoria went 2-for-5 with a home run and a double, but the Rays still fell to the Twins 5-3 Wednesday night.

Fantasy Impact:

With the Rays down by two runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning, Longoria tried to make things exciting, swatting his 14th homer of the season off Brian Duensing. The Twins got an insurance run in the eighth. when Eduardo Escobar hit his second home run of the game, and cemented yet another Twins win. With the loss, the Rays fell to 62-64, and are now 3 games back of the second wild card. Longoria hasn't been providing amazing offensive production this season, as he's currently ranked 18th on ESPN's player rater at third base. His line currently sits at .269/.332/.410 with 14 home runs, 26 doubles, 51 runs scored, 56 RBI, and even three stolen bases. The Rays need him for his defense and leadership, but Longoria's name is overrated in fantasy still. If you can make a trade to upgrade your team, I'd totally pounce. If you can't make a trade, it might be time to consider dropping him in some re-draft leagues if there's better options available on the waiver wire.
