Yadier Molina out for the season, playoffs unknown

by Vinny Lanni | Tue, Sep 29th 1:36pm EDT

Cardinals catcher/philosopher-king Yadier Molina has been sidelined since he partially tore ligaments in his left thumb against the Cubs on Sept. 20. Initially, team and player held out hope that he'd be able to return at some point in the regular season. Now, though, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that Molina will definitely miss the final days of the regular season, as he's been asked by doctors to rest his hand for another week (CBSSports)

Fantasy Impact:

Molina was putting together another solid season (.270 AVG, 4 HR, 61 RBI) for the Cardinals before he suffered a left thumb injury. This is a huge loss for the Cards and the timing of his injury could not have been worse.
