Brian McCann gets on base twice in Opening Day loss

by Chris Zolli | Tue, Apr 5th 7:39pm EDT

Brian McCann finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in a 5-3 loss against the Houston Astros. McCann had a solid, yet unspectacular game against Dallas Keuchel on Tuesday and looks to make more of an impact against Collin McHugh on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact:

McCann had a powerful 2015 season, matching a career-high in RBI with 94 and setting a career-high in HR with 26, but looks to improve his ability to get on base during 2016. Although McCann's .421 slugging percentage in his two seasons with the Yankees is very strong for a catcher, his .302 on-base percentage is disappointing, as were his back-to-back .232 batting averages in 2014 and 2015. McCann is a .262 career hitter, hitting .300 or better twice in his career, but has a .244 batting average over the last five seasons. The Yankees' backstop is a top-five catching option, but is a liability in batting average and runs scored.
