Another hitless outing for Mark Teixeira

by Chris Zolli | Wed, Apr 20th 10:48pm EDT

Mark Teixieira finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Athletics on Wednesday, his fourth hitless game in the last five games. Teixieira has seen his batting average drop under .200 with this cold spell, as he is now hitting .182 in 44 at-bats.

Fantasy Impact:

While Teixieira's batting average leaves much to be asked for, he has walked 12 times, leading to a respectable .357 OBP. The bigger issue for fantasy owners is that Teixieira only has three extra-base hits this season, all home runs, even if he has scored seven runs and has eight RBI. If Teixiera is not able to drive the ball, his value is minimal to fantasy owners, who bought into Teixiera's 31 home runs in 111 games in 2015. Even though Teixiera has had his struggles in April throughout his career, Teixiera had a .907 OPS in April from 2013-2015, so expect him to warm up with the weather. If Teixiera stays cold and cannot hit close to 30 home runs while driving in close to 90 runs, then he has no value for fantasy owners.
