Strong performance for Joey Votto in victory over the Cubs

by Chris Zolli | Blue Jays Correspondent | Sun, Apr 24th 10:28am EDT

Joey Votto finished 2-for-5 with a two-run home run against the Cubs in a 13-5 Reds' win on Saturday. Votto only has a .197 batting average this season, as he had a five-game hitless streak coming into Friday's game.

Fantasy Impact:

Fantasy owners are scared by the fact that Votto has neither hit for average nor gotten on base at his elite level, only seven walks, but he still has nine RBI this season. He walked a gaudy 143 times last season, leading to a .451 OBP, but he has pressed a bit in the early part of the season; those that are not pleased with Votto's start need to remember that he is considerably better in the second half of the season. Votto may be in the middle of a poor start to the 2016 season, but he is a top-five 1B and has never had an OPS under .874 in a full season.
