Carlos Ruiz continues to thrive in diminished role

by Kerry Kauffman | Sun, May 15th 7:04pm EDT

The Phillies managed 12 hits on Sunday but fell to the Reds by the score of 9-4. Carlos Ruiz got two of the Phillies hits, in five at-bats. He also scored a run and raised his batting average to .300 for the season.

Fantasy Impact:

Ruiz has been far and away better at the plate than Cameron Rupp this season, with an on-base percentage of .373 and slugging percentage of .500. The 37-year-old probably benefits from the extra rest and likely would see a significant reduction in production is he played every day. Ruiz has been playing about two or three days a week, so he likely wont see action until the middle of the week.
