Evan Longoria homers in crushing loss

by Mike Werner | Mon, May 16th 1:46am EDT

Evan Longoria went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double in the Rays' 7-6 loss to the Athletics on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact:

In the top of the fifth inning with a man on first and one out, Longoria fielded what could've been an inning-ending double play, but completely ignored the player running to second and got the easy out at first. The next batter (Danny Valencia) would go on to mash his second home run of the game to bring the A's within one. Feeling like he let the team down, Longoria came up in the the bottom of the inning and swatted the first Sonny Gray offering he saw into the left-center bleachers. The Rays would go on to lose in crushing fashion, after Valencia hit his third home run of the game in the ninth inning. The homer was Longoria's seventh of the season, tying him for fifth among all third baseman. He's on a four-game hitting streak, with five extra-base hits during that time as well. The Rays travel to the Rogers Centre to take on a very unhappy Blue Jays team on Monday night.
