James Shields

James Shields is the newest Chicago White Sox SP

by Chris Zolli | Sat, Jun 4th 8:44pm EDT

James Shields was traded from the National League to the American League on Saturday, as prospects Fernando Tatis Jr. and Erik Johnson were sent to San Diego for the former All-Star. Sheilds allowed 10 runs in 2 2/3 innings in his last start with San Diego and has a 2-7 record and 4.28 ERA this season. (White Sox Dave on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Shields will slot in behind Chris Sale and Jose Quintana in the White Sox rotation, giving the White Sox a respectable quartet with Sale, Quintana, Shields, and Mat Latos, as they work to stay in the AL Central race. His record may say that he is five games under .500, but Shields has eight quality starts in 11 starts this season, pitching at least six innings in 10 of his 11 starts. He will bring durability to Chicago's rotation, nine straight seasons with 200 or more innings pitched, and should debut either on Sunday (when he was supposed to pitch for the Padres) or Tuesday in place of Miguel Gonzalez.
