Jeff Samardzija keeps struggling

by Chris Zolli | Mon, Jun 6th 6:25pm EDT

Jeff Samardzjia has now lost back-to-back starts, allowing six runs in five innings against the Cardinals, including four home runs. Samardzjia has a 3.33 ERA and 1.14 WHIP this season, but has allowed 10 runs over his last 10 innings and only has six strikeouts over his last two starts. He will face the Dodgers on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact:

While looking like a solid SP2 through his first 10 starts, there are bad signs of 2015 Samardzjia over the last two starts, as he has mixed ineffiency and home runs allowed. There is obvious upside for Samardzjia, as he allowed one run in four of his previous five starts and pitched into the seventh inning in each of those starts, but it is best to sit the Giants' right-handed pitcher in his next start. In 63 at-bats, current Dodgers' hitters have a 1.063 OPS against Samardzija, with Chase Utley smacking five extra-base hits in 18 at-bats. A normally good play in DFS, there is actually better upside in playing against Samardzija on this weekend.
