Madison Bumgarner thwarted by Yankees

by Chris Zolli | Sat, Jul 23rd 1:51pm EDT

Madison Bumgarner allowed two runs on seven hits in seven innings against the Yankees on Friday night, striking out six batters and walking three. Bumgarner has allowed six runs in 13 innings since the All-Star break after back-to-back scoreless outings before the All-Star break. He has a 2.14 ERA this season and will face the Reds on July 27.

Fantasy Impact:

While two relatively poor starts should not define a season, fantasy owners cannot like that Bumgarner walked three batters and only induced three groundball outs against New York. Bumgarner is the second-ranked SP in baseball and has the potential to throw a shutout any time; bet on that if fantasy owners are looking to move the Giants' ace. Current Reds have a .635 OPS in 83 at-bats against Bumgarner and Billy Hamilton is 4-for-10 with a home run off of the left-handed ace.
