Stephen Strasburg returns, but could be right back on DL

by Chris Zolli | Thu, Sep 8th 7:19am EDT

Stephen Strasburg pitched 2 1/3 innings in his return, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four batters without a walk, but left the game with elbow problems. He has had consistent elbow issues throughout his career and will have an MRI on Thursday to confirm or deny if this will end his season. Strasburg has a 15-4 record and 3.60 ERA this season. Fantasy Impact:

This could be the kill shot for what was the breakout season for Strasburg, as he opened the season 13-0 with a 2.51 ERA and finished by allowing 20 runs in his last four starts of the season. Thursday's MRI may confirm the worst, but the Nationals would be smart to rest Strasburg before the playoffs even if he is healthy enough to pitch for the remainder of the regular season.
