Justin Verlander pitches well in a losing effort

by Chris Zolli | Astros Correspondent | Mon, Sep 12th 8:15pm EDT

Justin Verlander allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings against the Orioles on Sunday, striking out seven batters in a losing effort. Verlander is 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP this month, striking out 18 batters in 12 innings. He is 14-8 with a 3.33 ERA this season and will face the Indians in Cleveland on September 16.

Fantasy Impact:

Verlander had a quality start in 11 straight starts coming into Sunday, but was an inning short of a quality start on Sunday. He has still struck out seven or more batters in four consecutive starts and has walked two batters or fewer in 12 consecutive starts as well. Current Indians have a .766 OPS in 387 career at-bats against Verlander and he is 5-3 with a 3.43 ERA on the road this season.
