Jay Bruce struggling since his trade to the Mets

by Nick Ritrivi | Thu, Sep 15th 10:24am EDT

Jay Bruce is still looking to regain the stroke he had with the Reds before his trade to the Mets on August 1. Since his trade to New York, Bruce is hitting a putrid .192 with just four HR and 11 RBI. Prior to his trade to the Mets, he was the NL-leader in RBI.

Fantasy Impact:

If the Mets are going to make a run in the playoffs, or even secure a NL Wildcard spot altogether, they are going to need Bruce to start hitting. His struggles were highlighted on Wednesday afternoon against the Nationals when he struck out on three pitches in the top of the first inning against Tanner Roark with the bases loaded with one out. That threat would be the only legitimate scoring opportunity for the Mets all day, who lost 1-0 to Washington. Fantasy owners in the thick of the playoffs, or roto format stretch runs, should bench Bruce until he can get his bat going. Clearly, the move to the big N.Y. market hasn't done wonders for Bruce's confidence as he continues to press.
