Jay Bruce goes hitless again, hits low point as a member of Mets

by Nick Ritrivi | Wed, Sep 21st 10:37am EDT

Jay Bruce hit his low point in his short tenure with the Mets on Tuesday night in the Mets' 5-4 loss to the Braves. After going 0-for-3, Bruce was pinch hit for in the eighth inning with .172 hitter Eric Campbell. Campbell, instead of Bruce, batted with a runner on second and two out and the Mets down 5-3. Bruce was clearly frustrated with the move made by Terry Collins and was seen walking into the clubhouse after he was removed. Bruce also had a miscue in right field in the sixth inning when he allowed a Matt Kemp bloop to drop in for a RBI single.

Fantasy Impact:

Bruce has been horrific for the Mets since he joined the team. He is currently mired in a 3-for-38 slump and he is batting .176 since the Mets acquired him from the Reds on August 1. For fantasy purposes, he should be removed from lineups until he can get his bat going, if ever. With the Mets in a dogfight for the Wildcard, they can not afford to have Bruce in the lineup offering no value. It is very possible Bruce will see limited playing time from now until the end of the season.
