Ryan Rua

Who's on first? Rua, Gallo and Profar among the options

by Mitch Cox | Fri, Dec 16th 1:00am EST

With the departure of Mitch Moreland to Boston and Prince Fielder's career-ending injury, the Rangers have an opening at first base. According to GM Jon Daniels, it is "highly unlikely" the Rangers will be in the hunt for free agent Edwin Encarnarcion, which means the position could come down to one of three candidates - Ryan Rua, Joey Gallo or Jurickson Profar. Fantasy Impact:

The interesting thing here is that none of the three candidates are natural first baseman. Rua has the most "experience" at the position - 31 games last year and a total of 44 in his career. Profar, who prefers to play middle infield, played 17 games at first base last season - after having never played the position at any level. Finally, the power-hitting Gallo is a natural third baseman, but understands that as long as Adrian Beltre is at the hot corner, his best avenue to the big leagues is at first.
