Daniel Ponce de Leon allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over five innings pitched in Game Two on Friday. The Cardinals won the game 7-2 and moved to 24-24 with the victory. They are tied with the Reds for second place in the NL Central, both teams are .500, but the Cardinals have played four fewer games this season.

Alex Cobb started the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Yankees, giving up five runs in four innings. Three of the seven hits he allowed were homers and accounted for all of the runs given up. He also added five strikeouts and a walk in the 6-0 defeat. The loss dropped his record to 1-4.

Daniel Ponce de Leon pitched great for the Cardinals on Monday as they defeated the Brewers 3-2 in Game Two of a doubleheader. Ponce de Leon went six innings allowing two earned runs on a home run by former teammate Jedd Gyorko, four hits, one walk and recorded nine strike outs. The strike outs matched a career high set against the Padres in June, 2019. Brewers starter Corbin Burnes recorded 10 strikeouts on the evening and it appeared to fans watching the game from home that home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez was calling a wide strike zone so fantasy owners should temper their expectations for Ponce de Leon's future strikeouts. The Cardinals are 21-21 on the season and in Second Place in the NL Central.

The runs were surrendered on a Brent Rooker home run, which was the first of Rooker's career. The Cardinals are now 18-17 on the season and have sole possession of second place in the NL Central.

Daniel Ponce de Leon got through 2/3 of an inning, throwing 41 pitches, 17 of them for strikes. He allowed four earned runs and it could have been worse save for Jake Woodford stranding two runners he inherited from Ponce de Leon. He did not strike anyone out and walked four batters. His ERA on the season moves to 7.82.

Alex Cobb, who has been on the IL with an undisclosed injury since September fourth, appears to be on track to return by the end of the week. Look for the Orioles to update his status as the situation develops.
