Nik Stauskas catches fire in season opener

by Alex Murray | Fri, Oct 19th 10:01am EDT

Nik Stauskas scored 24 points on 64 percent shooting from the field, including a 5-for-8 mark from beyond the arc, during Portland's season opening win on Thursday night. Stauskas added two rebounds, two assists and a steal in 27 minutes off the bench.

Fantasy Impact:

Stauskas' outburst began in the first half when he hit four threes in a short span, forcing Coach Terry Stotts to give him more minutes down the stretch. The 24 points tied a career-high for the Toronto native and represented a jab in the teeth that LeBron and friends surely were not expecting on opening night. Riding the hot hand is sometimes necessary in basketball, but don't expect many more 27-minute opportunities for Stauskas this season as he still sits behind perennial All-Star CJ McCollum on the depth chart.
