Hassan Whiteside exercised his $27.1 million player option with the Miami Heat earlier in the off-season. The Heat dealt him to Portland, where he will slide in at the starting center spot until Jusuf Nurkic recovers from a leg injury. At the end of last season, Whiteside lost his starting job to Bam Adebayo, and his numbers have gradually declined the last three seasons. Whiteside averaged 12.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks for the Heat last season.
