Austin Rivers to stay with the Rockets

by Kaiyo Funaki | Mon, Jul 1st 2:45pm EDT

Guard Austin Rivers has decided to stay in Houston on a two-year contract with a player option on the second year. The Rockets picked up Rivers last year after the Phoenix Suns traded for him in the Trevor Ariza deal, who then subsequently waived him. (Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

It didn't take long for Rivers to prove his worth, as he played in 47 games with the Rockets and saw 28.6 minutes a night. Even as the rotations shortened in the postseason, he still managed to get 21.5 MPG. Rivers is part of deep guard group, including Eric Gordon, Gerald Green, and Iman Shumpert, that becomes all the more important considering Chris Paul and James Harden's combustible relationship. If Paul does force his way out of Houston, Rivers could alleviate some of his playmaking, as he averaged 16.1 points and 4.2 assists in his last full season with the Clippers.
