Kyrie Irving erupts for 50 points in season opener

by Brad Camara | Mavericks Correspondent | Thu, Oct 24th 1:07am EDT

Kyrie Irving scored a record-setting 50 points (17-33 FG, 7-14 3PT, 9-10 FT), with eight rebounds, seven assists, and one block across 38 minutes in the Nets' 127-126 loss to the Timberwolves on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact:

Irving's 50-point eruption set a new NBA record for scoring by a player making his debut for a new team, breaking Kiki Vandeweghe's record from 1984. Although, he did miss a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer in OT. Irving could be the entire offense in Brooklyn this year with Kevin Durant (Achilles) potentially out for the entire season. The Nets next game will be home against the Knicks on Friday.
