Saturday Shocker: Kenny Atkinson out as Brooklyn Nets head coach

by Lucas Spence | Suns Correspondent | Sat, Mar 7th 9:48am EST

In a very surprising announcement Saturday morning, the Brooklyn Nets announced that they have "mutually agreed to part ways" with head coach Kenny Atkinson. Jacque Vaughn will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. (Marc Stein via Twitter, Shams Charania via Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Per GM Sean Marks: "After discussions with Kenny about the progress of the season, we mutually agreed that a coaching change would be in the best interest of the team. This was an extremely difficult decision, however the organization believes it is one that is necessary at this time." Per ESPN Stats & Info, Atkinson has coached the Nets to a 118-190 (.383) record over the past 3+ seasons, which ranks fifth worst in the league during his coaching tenure. With Kevin Durant (achilles) out for the season and Kyrie Irving (shoulder, knee) playing in only 20 games this year, the Nets have predictably struggled with a 28-34 record.
