Trevor Ariza won’t join the Trail Blazers in Orlando due to family matter

by Adam Koffler | Mon, Jun 22nd 5:55pm EDT

Portland Trail Blazers F Trevor Ariza has decided to opt-out of joining his teammates in Orlando for the NBA restart and will instead take advantage of a one-month visitation window with his 12-year old son, sources tell ESPN. (Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Ariza and the mother of his 12-year old son have been in a custody battle throughout the quarantine. The mother granted a one-month court-ordered visitation for Ariza during that time, and Ariza opted to take the opportunity to see his son rather than partake in the remainder of the 2019-20 NBA season. Ariza was having a good season for the Trail Blazers, averaging 11 points, 4.8 rebounds, two assists, and 1.6 steals in 21 games since being traded by the Sacramento Kings mid season. Portland finds themselves 3.5 games back of the 8-seed Memphis Grizzlies and will have to come close to winning out in the 8-game regular season should they have any shot at a playoff berth.
