Fantasy Impact:

After being limited in practice due to left ankle soreness, Niang will look to work his way into an expanded role with the loss of the team’s second leading scorer Bojan Bogdanovic. If his increased role as the backup four behind Royce O’ Neal leads to an increase in usage, he has the potential to be a strong value play coming off the bench especially given his shooting efficiency. On the year, he has averaged 13.3 minutes of playing time, 5.8 points, 1.9 rebounds, and .6 assists all of which are career highs; he also shot 45.3 percent from the floor and 41.6 percent from beyond the arc. In the 22 games in which Niang played 15 minutes or more, he averaged 8.1 points while shooting 46 percent from the floor and 44.2 percent from beyond the arc, with an average usage rate of 16.9 percent. If he can exhibit confident play and expand on his shooting game, while showing the ability to contribute in other ways, he may be a steal for deep-league fantasy formats given his minimum price point. It would be best to take a wait-and-see approach as a lot of things have to fall in place for him to increase his immediate and long-term value.
