Derrick Rose undergoes surgery; no timetable for return

by Jake Perper | Grizzlies Correspondent | Wed, Sep 30th 3:25pm EDT

Chicago Bulls PG Derrick Rose underwent surgery repair a left orbital fracture on Wednesday following an accidental elbow to the face from a teammate in Tuesday's practice session. "All we know right now is Derrick went into the procedure this morning early, and the surgery went as expected," First-year Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg said after Wednesday's practice. "He's in recovery now, but yeah, the surgery did go as expected." (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

The Bulls don't officially open the regular season until Oct. 27 against Cleveland, so Rose could potentially be back wearing a mask of some sorts for that game. However, time away during camp and the preseason stages will hurt his comfort level in a new offense under Hoiberg. "[The injury] sucks in a way," Bulls PF Pau Gasol said. "But he's a tough kid and hopefully he'll heal well and he'll be ready to go." More updates to come regarding Rose as he recovers from yet another tough injury. Luckily, this one appears to be less serious than his previous leg issues.
