FantasyPros
Jones was one of the best running backs in the NFL in the 2nd half of the 2018 season. As long as the new coaching staff continues that usage, he should be a RB1 in 2019. He should also see more targets in the passing game, something the prior coaching staff did not do enough of last year.Freeman battled injuries in 2018 and he played only 2 games. He has had RB1 value in the past when healthy, but he is a huge durability risk in 2019 coming off a knee injury.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
If you're looking for a running back who comes with top-six upside but also comes with a high-degree of uncertainty, Jones is your guy. He's the most talented running back on what should be a top-five scoring offense, but it appears the Packers haven't given up on Jamaal Williams just yet. He's ideally someone you snag as your second running back due to the risk associated with himDo you remember Freeman's rookie year? Probably not, because it had him falling outside the top-35 running backs selected the following year. In that season, he totaled just 248 yards and one touchdown on 65 carries. That's significant because that's the only year he played under Dirk Koetter, who is now back in Atlanta as the coordinator. While Freeman will have a much bigger role, Koetter hasn't been able to boost a run-game during his time in Atlanta or Tampa Bay, so the ceiling has likely dropped for Freeman. And that's not to mention Ito Smith, whose role grew as the year went on in 2018
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Jones is an extremely efficient back with loads of upside in a new, favorable system. He just needs to put all of these soft tissue injuries in the rearview mirror. It's all about health with Freeman. Tevin is gone and he has the skill-set of a feature back. I like him as a RB2. He just needs to stay on the field.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Despite Mike McCarthy's best efforts to hold him back, Jones finally broke out last year. He has succeeded nearly every time he has been given a significant workload and has improved enough as a pass-blocker to warrant an every-down role. But he's battled a hamstring injury this preseason and Matt LaFleur has suggested that he intends to get Jamaal Williams and Dexter Williams some additional work. Still, Jones makes a solid RB2, as his spot in a strong offense and upside should mitigate much of his downside.Freeman missed almost all of last season due to injuries, but had put up anywhere between very good and elite seasons in the three prior years. With Tevin Coleman gone, Freeman should see an increaed workload, even with the presence of Ito Smith and others in the backfield. There are legitimate injury concerns with Freeman, but the Falcons may look to control the clock more and emphasize the run given their improved defense. All in all, Freeman makes a solid RB2, one with high upside.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Freeman is a solid option at his current ADP but there is some risk, obviously, after he missed all of last season. Koetter has also not really been known for his running game. With that being said, Freeman is also only a year removed from 1180/8 total in 14 games in 2017. He should have a solid weekly floor.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Among RBs with at least 130 carries in '18, saw 4th-lowest % of 8-man fronts (thank you, Aaron Rodgers) - GB wants to throw more to RBs which could be a further boon for Jones, assuming healthProven fantasy RB Top 10 upside, and with T. Coleman off to SF, the backup vulture threat is less a threat than ever - it all comes down to health (if he plays close to a full season, he'll be a bargain)
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Assuming he stays healthy, Aaron Jones is going to be a RB1 this season. He's the best RB on that depth chart by a mile, and he was fantastic when they finally gave him the workload he deserves. Jones had the most carries of 10+ yards of any RB with less than 150 carries last season, while he lead the league in YPC, and was 5th in percentage of runs that gain positive yards (Scott Barrett). The only concern with Jones is his health. He's suffered three separate MCL sprains, a pulled hamstring, and has just 4 career games over 15 carries...and exactly 0 games with 20 or more carries. We just don't know if he's capable of handling the workload we want. He's done everything he can over the offseason to try and get his body into perfect shape. He's down to 5.3% body fat as part of a new diet and workout strategy. At the end of the day, he's worth the gamble in the third round. All of the sure thing RB's are gone at this point, and you start to run out of RB's with top 10 upside. Jones absolutely has that sort of upside in his range of outcomes...he just needs to stay on the field. If you like lengthy injury histories, then let me introduce you to Devonta Freeman! Freeman has suffered a pulled hamstring, a hip strain, an MCL sprain, a PCL sprain, a knee bruise, 3 separate concussions, a foot bruise and then finally lost most of last year due to sports hernia surgery. Aside from his terrible rookie season, he's been extremely productive whole he's been on the field. Now let's talk about his offensive coordinator. Dirk Koetter has returned as the team's OC. He had that job from 2012-2014, then he was hired as the Bucs OC in 2015, and then served as their head coach from 1016-2018. In that time here is where his teams have ranked in rushing yards per game: 27/32/24/4/25/27/28. So in other words, Freeman is a RB with a high likelihood of injury, on an offense run by a man that has no idea how to run the football. What Freeman has going for him is 1) His talent...and 2) There's no one behind him on the depth chart. They have a few guys who can join together to fill potential void if he goes down, but they don't have a single RB that's going to challenge him for touches. Therefore, as long as he stays healthy, he's going to crush.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
"Devonta Freeman is in good health and hasn't had any setbacks at the start of the preseason. Based on how he has practiced, Freeman should be in line for a bounce-back campaign."
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Aaron Jones 16 game-pace last season: 1047 yards rushing and 12 rushing TDs 300 receiving yards and 1 TD And keep in mind that he didn't get nearly as many touches as he deserved. He's dripping with upside.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
While on the field, Jones was an elusive as any runner in the NFL. The issue, of course, was that Green Bay refused to use him like the three-down machine he can be. That may change with a new coach in town, but until we are certain he is a 300 touch guy, he will likely fall to the third round. Don't mistake that for meaning he doesn't have top 5 RB upside, however, because he most certainly does. The Falcons have been banged up the last two years including Freeman himself but don't be surprised if this offensive line surges forward this year with all the talent they have. If that happens, Freeman could explode back into the top 10 fantasy running backs as we saw in 2015, 2016 and 2017 with his fantasy points per game.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
We've seemingly forgotten about Devonta Freeman after his injury plagued 2018 season. Now, Freeman stands "alone" in that Atlanta backfield and is an incredible value in redraft leagues with his current ADP. Freeman's a solid bet for 240 carries and an increased volume in the passing game due to Tevin Coleman's absence. I'm drafting him wherever I can.
