Elliot Berkovits
Pack to the Future
Peterson once again finds himself in a starting role, albeit on what will likely be an underwhelming Washington offense. Expect rookie Antonio Gibson to see a decent amount of work, especially in the passing game but Peterson will still have value in standard leagues. He should also see the bulk of the goal-line carries.Even with Aaron Jones on the roster, the Packers used a 2nd-round pick on A.J. Dillon. With the Packers looking to move towards a run-heavy offense, this move isn't all that shocking but still leaves fantasy owners in a bind. I don't see Dillon having any stand-alone value in 2020 but is definitely worth cuffing to Jones if you draft him.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It's remarkable what Peterson's been able to do at 33 and 34 years old, compiling nearly 2,000 rushing yards over the last two seasons, but now 35 years old and in a new offense with tons of competition, it's hard to see him making a difference in fantasy football. He's still likely to command 10-15 carries per game and maybe get goal-line duties, so he could fill in for a few weeks in flex spots for those who are desperate. Some believe Dillon is going to walk in and destroy the value of someone like Aaron Jones, while others say he negates the role of Jamaal Williams. I don't know if he does either, but when a team spends a second-round pick on a running back, they typically have a plan for them. Over the last seven years, running backs drafted in the second round average 172.3 touches in their rookie season. Dillon is just an early-down back, so he'll be extremely touchdown dependent. Knowing how good Jones has been in that role, it's tough to take him off the field, so I'm fine with going the wait-and-see approach with Dillon (and every other non-Jones back in this backfield).
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
With the recent news that Derrius Guice has been released by Washington, Adrian Peterson is the main beneficiary. While Peyton Barber, JD McKissic, and Antonio Gibson are all going to be involved in this offense too, AP should be moving up draft boards. He'll be a borderline RB3/RB4 this season and should be a consistent option to plug into your lineups on bye weeks, etc.AJ Dillon has the draft capital on his side, but it's difficult to see him seeing any significant work in year one with Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams ahead of him. This move screams Matt LaFluer wants Derrick Henry back for this offense in Green Bay, but the issue is that Dillon isn't on the same planet from a talent perspective that Henry is...It's hard to see this move panning out long-term, but he'll be given every opportunity to succeed in the years to come.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
It's becoming increasingly likely Adrian Peterson somehow leads this backfield again. AD was very solid in 2019 and clearly still has the juice to be an NFL running back. While the sensible approach would be giving the many youngsters a proper chance, it's very possible Peterson is the starter and with the release of Derrius Guice, he's now a low-end starter who comes with plenty of job security risk. What the heck were the Packers doing in the NFL draft?! Despite having the RB2 last year in Aaron Jones and a viable backup in Jamaal Williams, they ignored their WR need and drafted AJ Dillon in the second round! The stupidity of that move fell through the cracks due to the earlier Jordan Love selection but it made absolutely no sense. Now the Packers backfield is a mess and Dillon is a fantasy player's nightmare. I'm treating him as an Aaron Jones insurance policy as the lead back is in a contract year. That makes Dillon little more than a handcuff and for that reason I likely won't touch him.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Peterson admittedly continues to run well despite his advanced age, but given his situation, there's next to zero chance that he turns into someone you can start at any point. The Washington backfield consists of Peterson, Derrius Guice, Peyton Barber, J.D. McKissic, Antonio Gibson, and Bryce Love, and to the extent one back could break out of that pack, it's likely to be Guice. On a team going nowhere with a sub-par offense, there's no reason to waste a pick on Peterson.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
One dimensional back that scores poorly in @GrahamBarfield 's Yards Created model. Despite consistently demonstrating strength against upper body attacks, Dillon can be a simple take down in the open field. He's not terrible at changing direction or making a cut when it's a part of the plan, but in terms of pure athleticism the stiffness in his hips is on display often. @JetPackGalileo
