Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
AP has now signed with the Detroit Lions, which indicates that the team plans on utilizing a committee approach with this backfield. AP wouldn't have signed with the team if he wasn't going to be guaranteed touches, so this muddies the water for fantasy football. AP will see his 8-10 carries a game, but it's unlikely that you ever feel comfortable starting him this season. If you are forced into playing him this season, close your eyes and pray that he falls into the end zone. At this point, I may be comfortable letting someone else in my league try to navigate this backfield.Williams has had fantasy relevance at different points throughout his career, but that may all end this season. With the addition of AJ Dillon, who the Packers will use this year, there's just simply not enough work in this backfield for Williams to have relevance. He can stay on your waiver wire.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Peterson signed with the Lions shortly after being released by the Redskins. Despite his advancing age, Peterson is coming up off two productive seasons with Washington and likely still has a little gas left in the tank. His role is entirely unclear, however, as both Kerryon Johnson and D'Andre Swift will factor in, and Ty Johnson and Bo Scarbrough are still on the roster. Peterson will likely be usable on occasion in fantasy but there's little reason to draft him in anything other than a bench piece.Williams offered some occasional standalone value last year, but he was mostly just a slight thorn in Aaron Jones's side and a high-end handcuff. The Packers used a second-round pick on AJ Dillon, and so even were Jones to get injured, Williams would likely have to compete for touches. He'll still factor into the gameplan, but for fantasy purposes, he's unlikely to see significant value under any circumstances this year.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
After his surprising release from Washington, A.D. will now be on the hunt for a new role. He may still reappear in D.C. though a return to Jay Gruden in Jacksonville or an entirely new team are all possible. Don't drop him just yet.The drafting of A.J. Dillon smothered the handcuff value of Jamaal Williams with the Packers back now working on his receiving in the hope he can establish a passing downs role. It's a good idea, but it's unlikely to help his fantasy value.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It's remarkable what Peterson's been able to do at 33 and 34 years old, compiling nearly 2,000 rushing yards over the last two seasons, but now 35 years old and in a new offense with tons of competition, it's hard to see him making a difference in fantasy football. It's tough to say Williams will be the running back behind Aaron Jones on the Packers' depth chart, but it's also tough to say he shouldn't be, as he was extremely effective in his role last year. But them drafting A.J. Dillon in the second round screams "he's the guy" behind Jones, and potentially the one even stealing some goal-line work from Jones. Because of that, Williams is not someone you need to draft in shallow leagues. It's best to see how this backfield shakes out before commiting a bench spot on a handcuff.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Peterson once again finds himself in a starting role, albeit on what will likely be an underwhelming Washington offense. Expect rookie Antonio Gibson to see a decent amount of work, especially in the passing game but Peterson will still have value in standard leagues. He should also see the bulk of the goal-line carries.Williams did most of his damage last year in the passing game scoring five receiving TDs. Unfortunately, his already low snap share may take a hit in 2020 after the Packers drafted A.J. Dillon in the 2nd-round. It's unlikely Williams has any stand-alone value in 2020, he's only worth drafting as a handcuff to Aaron Jones.
