NFL Mock
He's been hampered by injuries over the past couple of years, but when he has stayed health and gotten the targets he has been successful. His best season was in 2015, he had 105 Targets for 64 Receptions at 1031 Yards for 10 TDs, that's 16.11 Yards Per Reception and a 61% Catch Rate coming from Blake Bortles. He finished as the WR14 in Standard Scoring and WR18 in PPR. Where there is smoke there's fire, between the off-field rumors and a poor preseason there's little chance we see an out of this world performance from"The Alien".
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Apparently, the Cowboys are considering Hurns to be their number one receiver, but they also have Michael Gallup in the picture with Terrance Williams still starting. Whatever happens in this mess of a receiver core is up in the air, but it is worth noting that Hurns has some upside with Dak at QB.We've seen Bryant as a fringe WR2 while sharing targets with two of the best players in football. Now that he is in Oakland with just Amari Cooper and an old Jordy Nelson, his ceiling takes another step forward. First, however, he will have to get on the field and stay clean.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
As of right now, Hurns is the No. 1 receiver for the Cowboys, though you shouldn't expect him to carry that role for very long with Michael Gallup in the picture. Still, there's value for a wide receiver who will see anywhere from 5-8 targets from Dak Prescott. Hurns did produce quite a few fantasy relevant weeks with Blake Bortles, so it's possible he turns out to be better than most expect. So, Bryant went from competing with Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster for targets, to now competing with Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson for targets. I don't think this will end well, considering the quality of the targets will also go down. The positive is that Derek Carr has plenty of arm strength to get the ball downfield to Bryant, but Cooper and Nelson should dominate the work underneath, making him a very boom-or-bust fantasy option. He's apparently been running with the second-team offense and struggling to grasp the playbook, making him undraftable in most leagues.
Staff Rankings
QB List
This one's pretty simple: Hurns is a veteran with underwhelming athleticism, crisp routes, and what could be a consistently high target share as a defacto #1 receiver. If that doesn't scream bargain bin WR3 production then idk what does. Here's where we enter lotto ticket territory folks. You have an INSANELY gifted receiver in Martavis Bryant entering the season on a team that traded a 3rd round pick for him and has only Jordy Nelson to challenge him for the role of outside receiver. He could just as easily flop and end up a huge bust as he could capitalize on that role in the Raiders' offense, while getting hopefully improved play from Derek Carr, and become a top 20 stud. I'm more inclined to believe it will be something in the middle bordering top 30 production with on and off weeks, but this is a gamble I certainly would not mind taking.
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
The case for Hurns is simple: Who else is going to catch passes in Dallas? Although limited to 74 receptions over 21 games in the past two seasons, the 26-year-old joins a passing offense that bid farewell to Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. Then again, wasn't he supposed to be Jacksonville's top option when Allen Robinson went down for the season? He averaged a tame 48.4 YPG and did not garner a red-zone target after Week 4. Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams, and/or Michael Gallup could also answer the opening question, so treat Hurns as no more than bench depth with a solid target stream. Following a messy divorce with the Steelers, Bryant possesses more big-play upside than the typical late-round WR gamble. Rumors surfaced of a possible suspension, but nothing has happened yet. He's also Oakland's third option behind Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson, so he's not guaranteed a higher target share.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
The Cowboys have one of the worst receiving groups in the league, without a doubt, but Hurns is easily the best of the bunch right now. Michael Gallup could end up as the No. 1 target this season, although Hurns should be the favorite.Bryant could have fantasy value if Jordy Nelson's decline is precipitous. Bryant is still more of a deep-play receiver, which makes it tough to get consistency from him, but he'll be a starter as long as he's not suspended.
Raju Byfield
Win My Fantasy League
The Boys finally have a half way competent #2Bryant has the potential to lead the Raiders receivers in yardage and touchdowns
