Sleepers and Busts
It's amazing the stats Allen Robinson has put up with such lousy QBs. Last year he had 102 receptions 1,250 yards and 6 TDs. The Bears, unhappy with their offense, went back to the drawing board. First they signed QB Andy Dalton. Then they made a bold move to draft Ohio St QB Justin Fields after he slid in the draft. Fields might need time to learn the playbook. Nick Foles is still there too. They also drafted OT Teven Jenkins for a line which was in desperate need of an upgrade. Just think how good Robinson could be if the Bears actually scored a few TDs per game? Expect similar stats. The Bears offense is probably at least a year away from making a substantial leap..Thomas set an NFL receptions record with Brees only two years ago. 2020 was an injured ravaged season. Thomas underwent surgery on his ankle in June. The doctors recommend 4 months of recovery time. He's going to miss at least the start of the season- possibly more. Avoid.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
While the city of Chicago is elated that Fields is now in town, there's probably no one happier than Robinson. After playing with guys like Blake Bortles and Mitchell Trubisky for his entire career, Robinson finally has the chance to put up absurd numbers with competent QB play. He's still made it work and has been a fantastic fantasy asset for many years now, but this has the chance to be special. ARob will still be a very reliable receiver with Dalton behind center this year, but he has the chance to push top-5 WR status as soon as Fields takes over. Robinson's one of my favorite early WR selections this year. After dealing with an injury for the majority of last season, MT underwent surgery in June to fully fix the issue and he's now projected to be out for the first part of the season. It's a bit of a mystery right now as to exactly how long he's going to be out, but it doesn't look good for his draft stock heading into fantasy football draft season. After projecting him to miss the first five games of the season, Thomas dropped from WR12 in my projections to WR44. Without the guarantee that he's going to return to fantasy football dominance - as evidenced by last year's performance - Thomas may just be on my "do not draft" list. I'm willing to let someone else in my league deal with the potential range of outcomes unless he falls to a ridiculous value point in my draft.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
The Qb situation could bring some uneven results for A-Rob and the rise of 2nd years D. Mooney and C. Kmet could lead to a few less targets
John Hesterman
Dynasty League Football
The murky recovery timeline from Thomas' ankle surgery is concerning both in redraft formats and for his value in dynasty leagues. While dynasty managers may be forced to hold him, redraft managers should be cautious in whether or not they want to be associated with what appears to be a high amount of risk for the 2021 season.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Opportunity is everything, right? It's why despite Robinson's lackluster quarterback play, he's been able to finish as a top-12 receiver in back-to-back seasons. The upgrade to Andy Dalton was solid, but if the Bears play Justin Fields, it could be even better. Based on opportunity alone, Robinson should have finished as the WR4 in each of the last two seasons (that's based on how many targets he saw and where he saw them), so there's certainly room for improvement in his finish. Robinson has proven to be a WR1 with bad quarterback play in this same offense, making him one of the safer options as a low-end WR1/high-end WR2.It felt like too many people were dismissing Thomas this year, falling into borderline WR2 territory, but now that we know of his ankle surgery that took place in June, he's going to fall even further. It's possible he misses the first 4-6 games based on the timeline he received. It did seem like everyone forget he was the consensus No. 1 wide receiver just a year ago. The big question is: Who is his quarterback once he returns? If it's Hill, there should be a slight downgrade, but don't forget what Thomas did in the four Hill games last year: 9/104/0, 4/50/0, 9/105/0, and 8/84/0. Those are rock-solid numbers, though the touchdowns were obviously not there. Right now, I'm expecting Thomas to miss at least four games, which moves him down into WR4 territory. If you're able to stay afloat the first month of the season, snagging Thomas in the middle rounds might be a winning strategy.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Bears return = path to tons of volume. And now he'll have the best QB of his career throwing to him. Think ARob has a ceiling we haven't seen yet.Projected to miss at least a quarter of the season if not more due to ankle surgery. Sends MT plummeting in the rankings, but still makes sense around Round 9 or so for managers confident in drafting around him for a major stretch haul boost
Bart Wheeler
Hail to Fantasy Football
No Brees and now could miss a month or two of the season after ankle surgery in June. Way down.
Benjamin Klotz
Touchdown Squad
It's very rare to find a player of Robinson's talent level and target share going in the 4th round. Robinson has never had good quarterback play and yet has still produced as a low-end WR1 - now that he'll have Fields at some point this year, his upside is tremendous. Robinson ranked 3rd in the NFL in targets last year (between Hopkins and Adams) and there's no reason to assume his targets should decrease too much. Further, those targets are hopefully better quality than what Foles and Trubisky were able to provide. The worst-case scenario here is that Dalton/Fields aren't much of an improvement and he still produces low-end WR1 numbers like he did last year. Getting Robinson anywhere from the mid-2nd and beyond is great value and he's someone I'm targeting in all my leagues.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Robinson II had 211.9 in 16 games, despite playing with Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles. Robinson is a low-end WR1 that could have some upside if Justin Fields can earn the starting job and play at a high level.
Tim Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
It wasn't too long ago that Michael Thomas set the record for most catches and was the consensus No. 1 pick. A few injuries, suspensions, a disappointing 0 TDs on 40 catches in 2020 and a QB battle have created a whirlwind of questions around the once can't-miss stud. It's also added value. If you believe that Mike Thomas is truly a stud, you can have him for a discounted price, but be ready for all the question marks that come with it.
Joe Pisapia
FantasyPros
Allen Robinson has played with Blake Bortles, Blaine Gabbert, Nick Foles and Mitch Trubisky. Yet, he's still found a way to stay a fantasy asset over his career. Justin Fields/Andy Dalton are upgrades for the Bears and Robinson will continue to be the WR1 of the team with plenty of target volume in '21. Robinson has back to back 150+ target seasons and should be a PPR beast again this season with 100 rec and 1,200 yards well within his grasp.
