*Rotator Cuff Injury - Possibly miss First 6 Weeks*
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Did you realize that Jeffery had just a 47.5 percent catch rate in 2017? That ranked 168th of the 211 wide receivers who saw at least one target in 2018. To know that he finished as the WR15 despite that is pretty amazing. The chemistry between him and Carson Wentz should grow as time goes on, though his touchdown rate will likely go down with Wentz's. Still, Jeffery is the clear-cut No. 1 receiver in an offense with a creative play-caller and franchise quarterback. His injury-riddled past is factored in, as he'd be higher on my list if he hadn't missed 11 games in the past three years with a lot of soft tissue injuries. News has been leaked recently that has him potentially remaining on the PUP list to start the season. If that's the case, he'll become nothing more than a late-round bench stash. As of now, it appears that he's likely to at least miss a few games. Let's be clear - when you go from Aaron Rodgers to Derek Carr, there's going to be a massive efficiency decline. One positive from the move to the Raiders is that it appears they'll be using him in the slot, similarly to the way that the Cardinals use Larry Fitzgerald. Nelson isn't as physically imposing as Fitzgerald, and he's also got to compete with Amari Cooper and Martavis Bryant for targets. While Nelson will be usable as a safe WR4 play most weeks, he doesn't offer you much upside.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
Jeffery is in a strong offense and will be able to start 2018 as a veteran of that offense rather than a rookie like last season. He scored seven touchdowns in his last seven games. UPDATE: Jeffery has yet to practice and there is a possibility he might not be ready for Week 1 and could even land on the PUP list, knocking him out of the first six games. The odds are against that, but keep an eye on his status. *The Packers released Nelson, and the Raiders signed him to be their No. 2 receiver after releasing Michael Crabtree. I don't like the move, but it's done and Nelson will have some value in Oakland as the No. 2 receiver.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Alshon could start on the PUP list to begin the season so make sure to pay close attention before your draft. He impressed last season, and especially in the playoffs, but let's not forget that he had fewer than 800 receiving yards and has proven to be injury prone in the past. There is upside for sure, but perhaps not quite at the price he is going for. After being a top-three fantasy receiver two straight years, Nelson disappeared last year, posting more than 100 fewer points than the previous year and finishing as a WR5. Now that he is in a new offense and playing in the slot, we might see him split the difference in half.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Between weeks 8-15 last season (7 games) Alshon Jeffery totaled 30 catches on 62 targets for 427 yards and 7 touchdowns. As #Eagles gear up for the season, WR Alshon Jeffery has remained on PUP. Though he's progressing according to plan, sources say the timing of his rotator cuff surgery -- following the Super Bowl win - means there's a chance he may not be ready for the opener. Could stay on PUP. @RapSheet "Jordy is washed up." "Jordy is too old." "Jordy has lost a step." @friscojosh calls bupkis and names Nelson one of his Three Wide Receivers Primed to Break Out. (4for4) I obviously disagree...
Staff Rankings
QB List
As a die-hard Eagles fan, I will sing to the heavens of the exploits of Alshon Jeffery last season. In a year of growth for both he, his quarterback, and his team as a whole, Jeffery only managed 57 receptions, 789 yards, though with a whopping nine touchdowns. These statistics however, belie the upside of a top 10 WR for two distinct reasons: 1) Jeffery was relied upon more toward the end of the season as his rapport with Carson Wentz, and later Nick Foles, strengthened, and most importantly 2) Jeffery played the whole season with a torn rotator cuff. Man that's tough. Look for a solid game-to-game floor with huge games mixed in for the #1 receiver in a dynamic Eagles offense.I know many are incredibly hyped to see Jordy rocking the black and silver in Oakland (for now), but unfortunately Jordy appears to be a lesser version of the receiver we've known and loved in fantasyland for the past 8 seasons +. He appears slower, more worn down by his career injuries at a ripe 33 years old, and he enters a WR situation where for the first time (not counting the end of last year) he is not the primary option. For the past 3 seasons, Jordy has averaged a MASSIVE 140+ targets per season, well above the average targets per season of consistent fantasy stud Michael Thomas. In addition, he likely won't be the primary target in the red zone either, making the 11 TD's per season he's averaged over the past 3 a lost fantasy. He could always be great within the Raiders passing attack, but his share of targets will make sure that great isn't all that great.
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
A fruitful change of scenery made Jeffery's year. Despite a woeful 48 catch % and 3.6 receptions per game, his nine TDs (eight inside the red zone) cemented a WR15 finish. He remains the top wideout on a potent Philadelphia offense, but his year-by-year TD tallies (3-7-10-4-2-9) are living proof of the key stat's volatility. Nelson tallied 164 yards in eight games without Aaron Rodgers. He now plays for the Raiders, who do not employ Rodgers. Buying low on the WR2 from both 2014 and 2016 is nevertheless tempting, but he didn't produce a single TD or 40-yard performance without elite teammate. Don't reach for the 33-year-old in his first year away from Green Bay. If he falls past his No. 100 ADP, the TD potential is tougher to ignore.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
The Eagles spread things out offensively but Jeffery proved last year he can still dominate in stretchesNelson could be a massive steal if the Packers got his release wrong. Still, there are a ton of mouths to feed in OAK and he sure looked slow last year
Raju Byfield
Win My Fantasy League
Seems like a shoe-in for a top 25 performance after him and Wentz showed improved chemistry as the season progressedExcitement of offseason add faded a little with the Raiders addition of Martavis Bryant
Derek Lofland
Fantasy Football Maniax
He averaged only 8.3 fantasy points per game, but he also lost his starting quarterback for the last 3 games of the regular season. He will never see enough targets to be a WR1 for the season, but he is an excellent WR2.
