Kingsbury himself said Johnson will see an "extensive" role that could involve as many as 35 carries or 10 catches in a given game, which could return DJ to his fantasy glory days of 2016. Last season, he got a touch on 34% of plays, but the Cardinals ranked 31st in plays per game with only 56.4. In 2016, Johnson touched the ball at the same rate for a squad that ranked second with 67.9 plays per game, and the result was a league-leading 373 touches and the best fantasy running back season of the past half-decade. @ChrisRaybon
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Kamara has seen more than 100 targets in each of his first two seasons, and is a dynamic pass-catcher for a running back. As he did the previous two seasons with Mark Ingram, Kamara is going to cede plenty of work to Latavius Murray, who signed a fairly hefty contract. But Kamara doesn't need 20-plus touches per game to be an elite fantasy option. The offense runs through him, Drew Brees, and Michael Thomas, and it should be more of the same this year. He's one of the truly elite and safe players in the game today. The Cardinals offense was a disaster last season, and although Johnson saw plenty of work and put up enough fantasy points to be relevant, his production from recent years went down significantly. But all of that should be just a bad memory now, with the addition of Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray. Kingsbury's system doesn't focus all that much on passes to running backs, but given Johnson's talent level, he should make up for it elsewhere. Expect an elite season, albeit perhaps one that falls short of his 2016 level.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Kamara is one of the most explosive running backs in the NFL and he has 32 total touchdowns in 31 games. He should continue being an elite fantasy football option.Johnson was the victim of having a bad coaching staff and supporting cast, hopefully their offensive system will help utilize his special talents. He is a low-end RB1 that should benefit playing with rookie QB Kyler Murray in a fast paced offense.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
With Mark Ingram's departure, many are likely wondering what it means for Kamara, though the acquisition of Latavius Murray tells us a lot. He's likely going to walk into the old Ingram role, though it's important to note that it's no guarantee he's able to fit in this offense. You remember Adrian Peterson with the Saints, right? He was able to go to the Redskins and get it done, so maybe Sean Payton's offense just isn't right for everyone. Because of that, Kamara gets a slight bump in upside, which was already high to begin with, as he has finished as the RB3 and RB4 in his first two seasons with Ingram on the roster. Now that Steve Wilks is out of town, maybe we'll get back to the normally scheduled programming with Johnson. The air-raid offense that new coach Kliff Kingsbury figures to bring to the Cardinals should give Johnson a lot more work in the passing game. While at Texas Tech, Kingsbury passed the ball on 65 percent of their plays. By comparison, there were just two teams in the NFL who hit that number in 2018. With Kyler Murray presenting elusiveness, it should only help create lanes for Johnson, even if his offensive line is still weak
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Kamara has managed to finish as a top five fantasy running back in each season despite only being a workhorse for four games in that stretch. Now that Mark Ingram is gone, there is a chance he runs away with the league lead in fantasy points like Gurley did the last two seasons. With that said, Latavius Murray may jump right into Ingram's role and perhaps even vulture extra touchdowns. Now that Melvin Gordon is claiming he will hold out, Johnson is the clear RB5 and will most likely be the 5th pick off the board in most drafts ahead of Hopkins. He was not as good last year, in part because of the offensive line but primarily because the Cardinals ran so few plays. That should change this year under Kingsbury so don't hesitate because of his numbers last season.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Has led RBs in Half-PPR FAN PTS per Touch in each of his first 2 NFL campaigns (min. 200 touches per season)Air Raid system of new HC Kingsbury leans heavily to the pass and history of RBs under him is concerning for DJ, but Kingsbury will likely have to conform a bit to NFL and DJ has no competition concerns
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
Mark Ingram is now out of town and this leaves Kamara the likely leader of the Saints' backfield. While I'm not projecting anything over 215 carries for Kamara, he's going to see as many targets in the receiving game as he can handle. In any form of PPR, Kamara's a top-tier RB1 for your fantasy team in 2019.David Johnson fell into fantasy football hell last season with Mike McCoy as the OC in Arizona. Now, Kliff Kingsbury is in town with Kyler Murray and DJ is going to be leaned on heavily in this offense. The running lanes should be there with defenses regularly on their heels and DJ is going to soak up targets in this pass heavy offense. It simply comes down a question of Touchdowns...is this offense going to be explosive enough in year one with a rookie QB that David Johnson will get the scoring opportunities needed to be a top-tier RB? If you believe the answer is yes, then you should be all in on DJ at his ADP.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
I shouldn't really need to sell you on Kamara, but I'll do so anyways. Kamara has turned in back to back top 4 RB seasons, scoring a jaw dropping 31 TD's over his first two seasons. The crazy part is, he's done so on less than 320 total carries, and still hasn't been over 900 rushing yards. Kamara could finish as the #1 fantasy running back, even if he sees less than 200 carries. There isn't a single other RB you can say that about. He's got the most secure TD floor or any back in football, and he's game script proof thanks to his receiving ability (81 receptions in back to back seasons). I have no problem if you want to draft Kamara first overall. He's that safe and that good.I have a higher ranking and projection on DJ than most people do. My argument is simple, last season was the absolute worst case scenerio for DJ. His team struggled to score TD's, his QB played terrible, and his offensive coordinator was pathetic at play calling. Despite all of this...he was able to finish as the RB 10 in half PPR leagues. This season the offense should take a complete 180. They have a new head coach in Kliff Kingsbury that wants to lead the league in plays run, and they have the first overall pick in Kyler Murray, who's a massive upgrade from Josh Rosen. In 2018 the Cardinals were dead last with just 14.1 points per game, and they ran the second fewest plays per game. At the very least, they are going to improve apon thos numbers...and that's great news for DJ. I cannot stress enough how massive of a boost it would be going from just 56 plays per game, up to 70 per game. Not to mention the fact that they might actually be in the red zone for a few of those plays. Draft DJ with confidence.
