FantasyPros
With Mark Ingram's departure, many are likely wondering what it means for Kamara, though the acquisition of Latavius Murray tells us a lot. He's likely going to walk into the old Ingram role, though it's important to note that it's no guarantee he's able to fit in this offense. You remember Adrian Peterson with the Saints, right? He was able to go to the Redskins and get it done, so maybe Sean Payton's offense just isn't right for everyone. Because of that, Kamara gets a slight bump in upside which was already high to begin with, as he has finished as the RB3 and RB4 in his first two seasons with Ingram on the roster. There are real questions surrounding Gurley as we enter the 2019 season. Not only did C.J. Anderson play over him during the playoffs, but the Rams also traded up to the start of the third-round to select Darrell Henderson, an explosive running back out of Memphis. The Rams also matched an offer sheet the Lions submitted to backup running back Malcolm Brown, meaning the Rams are more worried about Gurley than they're letting on. We all know Gurley comes with plenty of upside, but we also know you can't win your fantasy league in the first-round, but you can definitely help lose it.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Has led RBs in Half-PPR FAN PTS per Touch in each of his first 2 NFL campaigns (min. 200 touches per season) - with Mark Ingram off to BAL, good shot at 1st 300-touch campaignNo. 1 RB in '18 falls down the '19 draft list because of an arthritic knee that is expected to bring about a reduced-workload maintenance plan by the Rams - definition of a high risk/reward pick
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
The Saints say Kamara's role won't balloon, but they have to know it should. If he gets the touches he got when Mark Ingram was out last year, look out.Gurley slides in my rankings due to health, last year's slide and the arrival of talent at his position. H e just may end up being a massive steal in round two (or 3!), but the risk this early is quite clear.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Kamara has seen more than 100 targets in each of his first two seasons, and is a dynamic pass-catcher for a running back. As he did the previous two seasons with Mark Ingram, Kamara is going to cede plenty of work to Latavius Murray, who signed a fairly hefty contract. But Kamara doesn't need 20-plus touches per game to be an elite fantasy option. The offense runs through him, Drew Brees, and Michael Thomas, and it should be more of the same this year. He's one of the truly elite and safe players in the game today.Gurley was having one of the more dominant running back seasons in recent memory before injuring his knee late in the year. His playoff performance only added to fantasy owners' concerns, and the Rams' drafting of Darrell Henderson cemented those worries. His knee issues are reportedly the result of some sort of arthritis, which is obviously concerning. But even with a decreased workload, Gurley's spot as the lead back in an explosive offense makes him a borderline RB1, albeit not one without risk.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Kamara has managed to finish as a top five fantasy running back in each season despite only being a workhorse for four games in that stretch. Now that Mark Ingram is gone, there is a chance he runs away with the league lead in fantasy points like Gurley did the last two seasons. With that said, Latavius Murray may jump right into Ingram's role and perhaps even vulture extra touchdowns.Gurley most certainly slowed down at the end of the year and comes with risk because of the unknown surrounding his knee. With that said, he was so exceptional each of the last two years that even with a 25% drop in production, he would still be an easy top 10 back. He still has more upside than any back including this year's big four so don't hesitate to snag him in the back end of the first round if you are feeling lucky.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Kamara is one of the most explosive running backs in the NFL and he has 32 total touchdowns in 31 games. He should continue being an elite fantasy football option.I never want to hear that my RB1 is managing his arthritic component in his knee and his usage in the postseason last year screamed that knee had some issues. He is still a RB1 in a great scheme, but I think the days of him being the best fantasy running back in the NFL are over, as the Rams will need to manage his touches for him to stay healthy.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
Mark Ingram is now out of town and this leaves Kamara the likely leader of the Saints' backfield. While I'm not projecting anything over 215 carries for Kamara, he's going to see as many targets in the receiving game as he can handle. In any form of PPR, Kamara's a top-tier RB1 for your fantasy team in 2019.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
I shouldn't really need to sell you on Kamara, but I'll do so anyways. Kamara has turned in back to back top 4 RB seasons, scoring a jaw dropping 31 TD's over his first two seasons. The crazy part is, he's done so on less than 320 total carries, and still hasn't been over 900 rushing yards. Kamara could finish as the #1 fantasy running back, even if he sees less than 200 carries. There isn't a single other RB you can say that about. He's got the most secure TD floor or any back in football, and he's game script proof thanks to his receiving ability (81 receptions in back to back seasons). I have no problem if you want to draft Kamara first overall. He's that safe and that good.Unfortunately, I will not have any shares of Todd Gurley this season. It's not that he can't have a good year, it's just that it's not worth the risk. With Darrell Henderson drafted to fill the Alvin Kamara role, his upside is capped. We know he's never again going to see the same sort of volume he has over the past few seasons, so even being in this prolific offense might not be able to save him. There is absolutely a chance that Gurley pays off his ADP and carries your team to the championship. However, it's unlikely, and just not worth the gamble. Unless he falls to the third round I can't justify drafting him.
