Breaking Football
Waller needs to show me he can score TDs to stick inside my top-5. He's still a top-10 guy based on his massive PPR role, of course.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
A two-touchdown game at Green Bay followed by a score at Houston in back-to-back weeks coming out of Oakland's Week 6 bye last season were the only times Waller reached the end zone in 2019. He made up for it with extremely consistent production, surpassing 50 yards 11 times last season and catching six or more passes nine times. When Miller entered December of his rookie season with 29 receptions for 398 yards and five touchdowns over his first 10 NFL games, it seemed as if he was on track to become a key part of Chicago's passing game. He then ended up catching eight passes for 53 yards over his next nine games through the end of last September. His increased usage later in the year was encouraging.
Elisha Twerski
numberFire
When Taylor Gabriel went down last year, Miller posted a 16-game pace of 80 receptions for 1,001 yards and 5 tuddies. That line would've made him the WR25 last season.
Kevin Tompkins
Fighting Chance Fantasy
Now going in the 5th round on average, are we still as high on Waller as we were when the price was right in 2019? Well for one thing, the Raiders added a ton of youth and upside to the position, potentially capping Waller's upside for 2020. That said, Waller is still firmly entrenched as my TE5. He should get a bump in touchdowns (3 in 2019) to help make up for him possibly losing some yards/receptions to the other talent in the offense.
John Hesterman
Dynasty League Football
As much as Waller produced last season, he left some meat on the bone. His high target total mixed with low scoring left some owners frustrated on a weekly basis. The additions the Raiders made to the receiving core means we cannot count on the same type of heavy target share Waller saw last season.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Darren Waller pulled off an incredible feat. After totalling 178 yards in his three previous seasons combined, he pulled off a 1145 yard TE3 finish despite just three TDs. That incredible performance was boosted by a terrible defense that left Derek Carr desperately throwing and a total lack of competition with hobbling Tyrell Williams and rookie Hunter Renfrow the only other notable receiving options. It's very hard to see Waller pulling of anything similar though, as the arrival of Henry Ruggs, Bryan Edwards, Lynn Bowden, Devontae Booker, Nelson Agholor and a healthier Tyrell Williams make the Raiders suddenly very crowded for pass catchers. Waller should still be a major focal point in the Vegas passing game but his weekly floor has certainly taken a hit. Drafting Waller, you're hoping for some major TD regression and a step up in quality that forces Carr to keep feeding him the ball. It's not out of the question but it makes it hard to trust him in the first five rounds and locks him in as a major bust candidate.Anthony Miller's enigmatic start to his NFL career continued in 2019 with two massive 100+ yard explosions and a heap of underwhelming single-digit efforts. There's no doubt his continued shoulder issues remain an issue but after another off-season surgery, it's very possible Miller has another slow start. In an offense that surely must be better under Nick Foles, there's a lot of hope Miller will break out in his third season, just know you may have to wait it out a little.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There was just one tight end in all of football who finished all 16 games with at least 7.0 PPR points. It was Waller. Not only that, but he also offered a ceiling, hitting 16-plus points on five separate occasions. The issue with relying on that again is the new competition for targets. As much as we don't want to consider Jason Witten a threat, he's going to steal some targets. Not just him, but Henry Ruggs, Lynn Bowden, and Bryan Edwards are all guys who'll demand some sort of target share. I still view Waller as a top-five tight end, though he's teetering there.Despite playing with Mitch Trubisky, Miller has now seen 139 targets in his first two seasons, compiling 85 receptions for 1,079 yards and nine touchdowns. By comparison, Robert Woods saw 139 targets last year, finishing with 90 receptions for 1,134 yards and two touchdowns. But for whatever reason, Matt Nagy has chosen not to let Miller flourish in the Bears offense. There were just seven games he saw more than three targets. In those seven games, he totaled 42 receptions for 547 yards, and two touchdowns. With Taylor Gabriel gone, it's very possible that Miller becomes more of a staple in the offense. He's best viewed as a WR4/5-type option with WR3 upside.
Frank Bonincontri
Fantasy Wire HQ
Dont let Jason Witten scare you off of Waller, let Ruggs, Edwards and return of Williams scare you off. Either way, he is too talented to ignore and not be a key piece of the offense
Rob Wilson
The Fantasy Footballers
Underrated once again, the focal point of the Raiders passing attack. Rookie hype will die down, grab Waller at cost.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Darren Waller was the sleeper of all sleepers last year. For everyone who took the risk and drafted him late, congrats. Waller has always had the talent, he just had an issue staying on the field. Now that that seems to be a part of his past, we could Waller take his game to the next level in 2020. Last year he caught 90 balls for 1,145 yards but only three TDs. I expect some positive regression in the TD department for Waller this year. After a strong rookie season in which Miller scored seven TDs, he regressed in year two scoring only two times and never seeming to get on the same page as QB Mitchell Trubisky. He still seems to be the WR2 in Chicago which is a plus but it's not like the Bears passing offense is one you're dying to be a part of. I see Miller as a WR4 with a sliver of upside depending on who starts at QB for the Bears.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Waller should be the fifth tight end off the board, but fantasy managers should temper their expectations a bit. The Raiders added Jason Witten, Henry Ruggs, Lynn Bowden, and Bryan Edwards, so there will be plenty of more competition for targets. Also, remember, last season, the Raiders assumed they'd have Antonio Brown and then had to coordinate a new offensive gameplan on the fly. With their new additions, the Raiders have had months to figure out how to involve them in their offense, so Waller's usage and target share should likely decrease. Again, he should be the fifth tight end off the board, but he might not be worth the draft capital you'll need to spend to acquire him given the later options available at the position. If you take Miller's final six games of the fantasy season, he had 34 catches for 433 yards, which prorates out to a 90-catch, 1154-yard line over a full season. Although he only caught two touchdown passes last year, he caught seven the prior season, so he's due for some positive regression. He's coming off shoulder surgery again, but so long as he's healthy, and especially if Nick Foles (who loves to target slot receivers) wins the starting quarterback job, Miller should be in for a fine year.

Waller was one of last year's breakout stars and he helped propel several rosters to fantasy football championships. Now, his price tag has certainly gone up and you're betting on that production repeating this season. Waller certainly has more competition for targets so he could see his total from last year drop down, but he absolutely could make up for it with an increase in touchdown production. Waller's a fine selection in the mid-rounds, but he may not possess as high of a ceiling as he did last year.Miller was fantastic his rookie season in Chicago, but took a big step backwards last year with the offensive struggles. Additionally, Miller has struggled with a shoulder issue for quite some time now that kept recurring last season. This season though, Miller should get back on track and should easily be second on this team in targets. The offense can only go up from where it was last year and Miller should see plenty of scoring opportunities as well. He's a great pick in the mid-rounds of your draft.

Slightly worried about his involvement when additional weapons arrive but that's a future worry. Took advantage of his opportunities in 2019.Going into his age 26 season, just a year younger than teammate Allen Robinson. We have the assumption that Nagy would like to use his TE more. Burton had 94 targets in 2018 but hasn't been able to stay on the field. Jimmy Graham comes in, along with rookie Cole Kmet. Miller should still have a clear path to targets if he can take it. Has struggled with shoulder injuries, having surgeries each year, his route running is good.

He had a special season last year that was replicated by only 4 TEs in the last 20 years.

Flashed breakout upside, maybe the switch to Foles will be the Surrounding Talent injection he needs to fully realize the ceiling

Waller had 1,150 yards from scrimmage and 3 touchdowns, he established himself as the top playmaker in the Raiders passing game and he should have another big season in 2020.
