Antonio Brown's value is tanking just hours before the season begins. Just when we thought his antics would ease off for a football season, at least in part, he throws a fit at GM Mike Mayock. A team suspension seemed minor early on, but the situation has all the attributes of having a snowball effect as more information further reveals. This is the last note I will have on Antonio Brown in my draft rankings. Remaining positive with him is misguided from a fantasy perspective. If you drafted him, my condolences.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Mack missed four of the first five games due to injuries, but still managed 908 rushing yards, 4.7 YPC and nine TDs. He is playing behind an emerging offensive line and he should be a low-end RB2 in 2019, even without QB Andrew Luck.At this point, Brown is such a circus, that one has to wonder if he ever plays for the Raiders. There is too much uncertainty for him to be anything more than a boom / bust WR3.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Marlon Mack had four games with 125 or more rushing yards in the regular season or post season, tying him with Saquon Barkley and Ezekiel Elliot for tops in the league, no other running back had more than two."Antonio Brown's contract includes standard language that voids guarantees for, among other things, not practicing and leaving the club without written approval. So even without a suspension, contract experts with other NFL teams tell me the #Raiders have a case to void his deal."
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
When drafting a running back in the third- or fourth-round, it's likely they're going to be the No. 2 running back on your fantasy team, and Mack was ideal for that role, until Andrew Luck suddenly retired, putting the whole Colts offense in a different realm. Because of the downgrade to Jacoby Brissett, Mack should be considered an RB3 who does still play behind one of the top offensive lines in the league. He's now going away from Ben Roethlisberger, so let's see if he remains an elite fantasy wide receiver as he's claimed. We've witnessed both Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree remain consistent with Derek Carr under center and it's not as if there's been a new offense installed from last year where we can expect a drastic change. Because of that, Brown is likely going to be a tad inconsistent. Still, he's one of the rare cases where you can essentially lock him in for 150 targets if he's on the field. That's where the next question is: Will he be on the field? He's dealing with frostbite on both his feet and is upset about the NFL telling him he's unable to wear his current helmet. The drama continues...
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
He's in line to push 20 touches per game for what should still be a decent offenses despite loss of QB Luck - was No. 11 RB in half-PPR PPG in '18, and closed out final 5 games (inc. playoffs) with 5 TDs and avg. of 101 YFSMove to OAK not an upgrade in terms of QB, offensive environment, but good reason to believe that, given Raiders offensive construct, Brown could very well lead NFL in targets (200+, maybe?)
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Does the Andrew Luck news help or hurt him? I'm leaning in a negative fashion, but he's still a dynamic back with nice upside. I'll just be looking elsewhere for the most part.Do I trust Antonio Brown? No, but the Raiders will be throwing the ball and he was still putting up insane numbers last year. He's still a top-10 threat.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Now that Andrew Luck is retired, most expect Mack to be on the wrong end of negative game scripts, but the Colts have insisted that he will be on the field on third downs like he was as a rookie. If that is the case, Mack still has RB1 potential to go with a safe floor thanks to an incredible offensive line ahead of him.You can say what you want about Brown's attitude but he has one heck of a work ethic which has led to him being one of the all-time great receivers. Derek Carr is a rough draw for him, but Brown is still in the second-tier of WRs and likely to reach double-digit TDs for the 5th time in 6 seasons. His minor concerns over the frostbite and threatened retirement drop his stock a bit, but he is still a WR1.
Rich Piazza
Fantasy Shed
There's no question that everybody on the Colts offense, including the running backs, are going to take some kind of a hit with the Andrew Luck retirement. Mack will get enough usage, and is talented enough, to still finish as a RB2.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Andrew Luck's sudden retirement changes the equation for Mack, but probably not as much as you'd expect. He'll still run behind an elite offensive line and excellent system. Yes, Jacoby Brissett as the quarterback marks a huge downgrade for the entire offense. But the Colts may try to lean on Mack a bit more than they otherwise would have, and he may able to make up a downgrade in efficiency with an uptick in touches. Drop Mack a few spots, but still consider him an RB2.Brown is one of the great route runners in the game, and although he was looking at a sharp decline in his quarterback play and his touchdown numbers hid some of his regression last year, he was surely in line for double-digit targets per game and a likely WR1 season. Of course, with Brown comes drama, and we've already seen plenty of it this preseason. Brown has been dealing with frostbite on his feet, and is now purportedly threatening to retire unless he is permitted to use his old helmet, which is no longer allowed by the NFL. Even assuming Brown plays, which he likely will, he's cost himself time to build chemistry with Derek Carr. It's hard to draft Brown with any confidence at this point and until we see him actually on the field and practicing with Carr, fantasy owners would be wise to avoid him absent a steep drop in price.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
The ADP is a bit odd to me. Yes, he is on a tremendous offense and is the lead back, but he does not have a role in the passing game and will be TD dependent in games where his yardage total is not high. He is similar to Sony Michel, who I just wrote an article about (brotofantasy.com) saying not to draft. Mack had less than 40 total yards in 5 of the 11 games he played in last season and 7 of his 9 TDs came from outside of those games.Antonio Brown has been a top 5 WR every single season since 2013 under Big Ben. Those days are gone. Derek Carr is not Big Ben, and AB was a worse receiver last season. He is also considering retiring because of a helmet.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
I am not going to draft Mack at all this season. I don't understand how a guy with so many flaws is being drafted in the third/fourth round. Mack doesn't catch passes, he's not dynamic enough to break off big runs, and is entirely useless in games where the Colts are trailing. He's a TD-dependent RB2 being drafted as much more.Antonio Brown was third in True Target Value last season seeing 168 targets from Big Ben. If we assume AB sees the same amount of targets this season and consider the downgrade from Roethlisberger to Derek Carr throwing those passes, AB's TTV drops to 13th. He's a high-end WR2 with an unbelievable amount of off-field baggage. The value is not there at the moment in drafts.
KJ
Fantasy Team Advice
Without timetable for return due to frostbite in his feet from cryptotherapy. Basically undraftable until we have a more concrete timeline on his recovery
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
Antonio Brown now shifts from the Steelers to the Oakland Raiders and now has to begin life without Big Ben throwing him the ball. While Brown will still be a target monster in Oakland, it's easy to expect some drop-off in production due to the difference from Big Ben to Derek Carr throwing him the ball. Brown will still have every opportunity to succeed, but it's important to remember that the days of 1,500+ receiving yards for Antonio is most likely over.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Mack finished last season with 4/12 games over 115 rushing yards. He's going to be the lead back in a high powered offense, so there's plenty of upside with this pick. Before you get too excited, there are still some negatives with Mack. He was 30th in yards per carry after contact, 33rd in breakaway percentage, 38th in yards created per carry, 54th in elusiveness rating and 55th in juke rate. When it comes down to it, even if Mack isn't as talented as we might think he is, opportunity matters infinitely more than talent. Mack is going to get a lot of opportunity on an elite offense. So makes him a good pick. I won't be going out of my way to target him, since Hines eats into his receiving upside. However, I'm not afraid to take him where he's going.I won't be drafting AB this season. It's nothing to do with his age or his talent, there are just too many unknowns for me to spend an early second round pick on him. He's changing team, which is never something you want for a WR, and he's going to a lower volume offense with a worse QB. Brown can complain all he wants about Big Ben and Pittsburgh, but Big Ben is a great QB, fed him the ball, and they were an elite offense. Only one of those are going to be true in Oakland. Carr is far from an elite QB and they are not going to be an elite offense. The only positive is that they are likely to feed him. Unfortunately for Brown, these targets will be less numerous, and come with less upside than they did in Pittsburgh. There are so many other elite players going in his range that I just can't justify spending such a high value pick on him.
