Breaking Football
Austin Hooper was the TE6 for ATL last year. Hurst is the better athlete and should have that role, which instantly puts him in the top-10 conversation.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Acquired by Atlanta to fill the void created by Austin Hooper's departure, Hurst could emerge as a fantasy asset on a team devoid of passing-game weapons beyond WRs Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley.Although he became the NFL's highest-paid tight end the moment he signed a four-year contract for 44 million, which included 23 million guaranteed, Hooper is hardly an elite performer in either real or fantasy football. The Browns will likely find ways to get him involved in the passing game after making such a hefty investment, which gives Hooper a high fantasy floor.
Bart Wheeler
Hail to Fantasy Football
He has a great shot at a top-5 finish in this Atlanta offense. If you want him, you'll have to pick him among the first ten TEs.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
The Falcons offense remains a passing juggernaut with Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Austin Hooper, the slot receivers and the running backs all on pace for 100+ targets in 2019. While Austin Hooper, Mo Sanu and Devonta Freeman are gone, Hayden Hurst, Russell Gage and Todd Gurley arrive in their place. It's fair to suggest more from Gurley compared to last season's backfield mess and a breakout from Calvin Ridley is entirely likely, but Russell Gage isn't a top receiver and that leaves a massive pile of targets for the tight ends. While that's no guarantee, it's hard to see how Hayden Hurst could not finish as a top 12 tight end. That makes it even more incredible that he's available in the double digit rounds. Hurst is an absolute steal and one of fantasy's biggest sleepers at this stage of the pre-season.Austin Hooper was a surprise fantasy stud in 2019 and he now makes the move to Cleveland. While he'll no doubt play a big role in the new Stefanski game plan, given how run-heavy the Browns will be in 2020, it's fair to assume he'll add a lot of value with his blocking and that's not what fantasy players want to see. While Baker Mayfield did use David Njoku quite heavily in 2018, he now has two sensational receivers and that will make it hard for Hooper to gain the target volume to be start-worthy on a weekly basis. He profiles as a match-up specific streamer who starts things off against the Ravens. You really can't make him your only tight end and that means he shouldn't be going until double digit rounds and that's very much not the case. He's a pass for me.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
When projecting Matt Ryan for somewhere in the neighborhood of 620-plus pass attempts, you need to disburse them somewhere. The Falcons didn't even make an offer to Austin Hooper but decided to spend a second-round pick to acquire Hurst from the Ravens. It's clear they view him as someone who can step right into Hooper's role. It may take some time for Hurst to get acclimated to the new offense with a shortened offseason, but Hooper's role was massive last year. He totaled 97 targets in just 13 games, which was a pace of 119 targets on a full 16-game season. Did you know that of the 116 tight ends who've seen more than 85 targets the last 10 years, that 97 of them finished as top-12 tight ends? That's an 83.6 percent success rate and it seems highly likely that Hurst is going to hit that. Move that number up to 90 targets and it's a 92.4 percent success rate. One of my bold predictions this year is that Hurst finishes as a top-five fantasy tight end. Don't think he was bad because he was playing behind Mark Andrews, one of the best tight ends in the league.Yes, the Browns just paid Hooper a lot of money. Yes, the Browns also picked up the fifth-year option on Njoku's contract, and then drafted a tight end in the fourth round. What a mess. This is a lot like the Vikings duo of Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith last year. Don't forget that the Vikings paid Rudolph a lot of money (4 years, $36 million) just one year ago, after they had already drafted Smith. Do you know how that situation played out? Rudolph got 48 targets while Smith got 47 of them. The Vikings tight ends combined for 105 targets last year when you add in Tyler Conklin. Even if you want to weight them more towards Hooper, what are you looking at? A 55/40/10 between these three tight ends? The magic number for a tight end to be considered a TE1 is right around 80 projected targets. We cannot get there with Hooper. Njoku and his agent know that this is a bad situation and want out, but the Browns have said they're holding onto him because Stefanski loves to use two tight ends. The best-case scenario with Hooper is that he gets close to the 70-target mark and scores at least six touchdowns, though I don't see it happening. I'm staying away from this tight end unit unless some injuries arise. If Hooper or Njoku were to get hurt, the other would turn into an attractive option.
Frank Bonincontri

Will Hurst step in and become the 2019 Austin Hooper? No, but he will take on a solid target share and will likely be the sleeper of the fantasy TE position group. Just because he was not featured exclusively in BAltimore doesnt mean he is a sub-par tight endLikely to be asked to stay in and block more, Hopper isn't just going to disappear from the fantasy radar. New opportunity in CLeveland but I am not expecting his Atlanta results

Under the radar TE that can be taken for little cost in most home leagues. Top target for those waiting at TE

Hurst is one of my favorite TE sleepers for the 2020 season. He's a former 1st-round pick which means he definitely has the talent, he just never had the opportunity in Baltimore. That will change in Atlanta where throughout Matt Ryan's career, the TE position has done very well. Whether it be Tony Gonzalez or Austin Hooper, if you're a talented TE, Ryan is going to target you. If you punt on TE, Hurst is a great late-round option. After a career-year in 2019, Hooper is now a member of the Browns in what's looking like a very crowded offense. Between OBJ, Jarvis Landry and Kareem hunt catching passes out of the backfield, it's hard to imagine Hooper seeing the same target share he got in Atlanta. And I still haven't mentioned David Njoku. Overall, Hooper should finish as a top-10 TE but no longer has the upside to finish top-5.

Hurst has never had more than 349 yards receiving or 2 touchdowns in a season, but this is his chance to breakout as a starting tight end playing with Matt Ryan. He is a TE2 with TE1 upside due to his great quarterback situation.Hooper had a big season with 787 yards receiving and 6 receiving touchdowns and he would have been even better if he had not missed 3 games and 6 starts due to injury. Hooper should be TE1 again in 2019, but it remains to been seen if he can thrive with his new home being Cleveland.

Hurst rarely played even half the snaps with Baltimore, but he was sixth in yards per target last year and was PFF's eighth-highest graded tight end. Dirk Koetter's offense likes to target the tight end, as Austin Hooper saw 60 targets through eight games last year and Tony Gonzalez saw 118 targets per season under Koetter. Add in that Hurst is likely to run routes out of the slot this year and Hurst's first year with the Falcons should be a big one.Hooper was having a borderline dominant fantasy season halfway through the year before an injury brought his production down significantly. Cleveland was hardly the expected or desired destination for Hooper from a fantasy point of view, considering he'll need to compete with a ton of mouths for targets. But, at least Hooper will be on the field non-stop, as Kevin Stefanski runs plenty of two-tight end sets, and Baker Mayfield has thrown 35% of his career touchdown passes to tight ends. Hooper can be considered a startable option in most leagues, but a low-end one.

There's no bigger disparity in the NFL right now between upside and ADP than Hurst. Hurst is currently going outside the top-12 tight ends, but has a very good chance and path to finishing as a top-5 option at the end of the season. Hurst is a talented tight end who is finally going to be given an opportunity in Atlanta's dynamic offense. He's a home-run pick in the late rounds of your draft. While Hooper is one of the more talented TEs in the NFL, he's in an offense that isn't exactly going to maximize his skills from a fantasy perspective. He's going to be asked to stay in and block quite a bit and this offense should be one of the more run-heavy units in the league. Hooper's a fine dart throw in the later rounds, but it's unlikely that he finishes anywhere close to the top-5 when it's all said and done.

Former first round pick, missed opportunity in Baltimore, MAJOR upside in Atlanta. Hurst had 62 targets total in 2 years while playing for Baltimore, 43 catches, 512 yards, and 3 Touchdowns. Austin Hooper last year had 97 targets, 75 catches 787 yards and 6 touchdowns. The targets and opportunity are their in Atlanta for Hurst to crush. @NickSarnelli

ATL just traded a 2nd round pick for Hurst, knowing that he's been a poor blocker his first 2 years in the league. Below AVG on 389 RUNBLKs, and just 8 PASSBLKs to his name. His poor blocking is good news for how it appears they might plan on using him. Hooper was rarely blocking, and was in for twice the amount of pass snaps as Hurst last year.Targets to the Vikings TEs under Stefanski in 2019 - 95. Irv and Rudolph split those evenly. Targets to the TEs with Baker in 2019 - 59 between 3 guys. This might be a mess. Do we believe Hooper funnels al of those, how many does "those" mean? 60? 70? We know what the Vikings game plan was under Stefanski, run, run, run. And we know the offseason moves point towards trying to do the same thing here. For me, this worry is at least enough to knock Hooper down a few spots from his ADP and take his replacement in ATL, at his price, instead.

Koetter = Perfect scheme for Hurst to rebound and escape Andrews' shadow. No one uses the TE better than ATL w/ Koetter there.Huge faller here. Browns already have a ton of weapons, he'll be exposed for mediocre outside of Dirk Koetter's TE dreamboat scheme
