Hail to Fantasy Football
I have serious concerns that elbow will hold up for 16 games. I've lowered him outside of my top-20 with that injury concern baked in.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Big Ben still has the talent and weapons to be an elite QB1. The problem is he's coming off a serious elbow injury and he's another year older. He is a risky, high upside pick to be your QB1.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Limited to two games in 2019, Roethlisberger had elbow surgery to reattach three tendons. He began throwing a football in mid-February, and he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in mid-March, "I'm throwing without pain for the first time in years."Tannehill was signed to a four-year, 118 million contract after leading the NFL with a 117.5 passer rating and 9.6 yards per attempt in 2019. There's no way he comes close to duplicating those number with NFL defenses bound to make adjustments.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Big Ben turned into Bigfoot in 2019-20 as an elbow injury crueled a promising fantasy season for Roethlisberger, Juju and anyone else connected to the Steelers. Therefore, the question still remains whether he can replicate his breakout (yes, that sounds funny) 2018 when he finally topped 20 fantasy points a game. My take is that he'll struggle without AB, but I still believe this offense has enough quality to make him a solid fantasy option in 2020. Take him as your second QB at the end of drafts if you're preferred pick is on the risky side and you have a big bench.A massive key to fantasy success is getting on players before they break out. I was all over Tannehill when he took over in Tennessee last year, placing him in my top 5 weekly as the season climaxed. He balled out too, getting three TDs every week after week 7. That suggests amazing sustainability so surely he'll be great this year right? NO! Tannehill had amazing efficiency and regression is a cruel mistress. While he continues to show weekly upside, I just can't trust Tannehill to perform in any given week and for that reason, he's nothing more than a gamble. With so much QB depth, that's not a gamble I need to take.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
This is one of the weirdest offseasons in NFL history. It's uncharted territory with so many question marks. Then you add in Roethlisberger, who's been rehabbing from an elbow injury that had him tear three tendons in his throwing arm. Yikes. His teammates have said he looks good while throwing the ball around, and have also said he's lost weight, and looks lighter on his feet. Many are undervaluing the Steelers this year due to what happened last year, but don't forget they averaged 66.4 and 66.1 plays per game in 2017 and 2018, while averaging just 58.6 plays per game in 2019. That amounts to an extra 120-plus plays for this offense with Roethlisberger back. The pass attempts dropped from 687 to 510. While that 687 number from 2018 was sky-high, the Steelers continually have averaged 585-610 pass attempts. We can talk about Roethlisberger throwing at least 26 touchdowns in six of his last eight seasons and that he's averaged at least 7.5 yards per attempt each year from 2014-2018, but none of that matters if his elbow isn't right. It adds a level of risk to the entire roster, though he was apparently playing through some elbow pain for quite some time, and it makes sense considering how three tendons finally snapped. We'll talk about it throughout the season in The Primer, but you should also know that Roethlisberger has been horrendous on the road over the last six years, averaging just 15.22 fantasy points per game compared to the 22.19 fantasy points per game at home. He opens the season on the road against the Giants, which is a juicy matchup, but should you trust him coming off the arm injury? I'd probably play it safe and stream him throughout the year once we know he's healthy. When someone goes from anywhere in between 6.7 and 7.7 yards per attempt throughout their first six years, then jumps up to 9.6 yards per target, we call that an outlier, especially when said outlier contains just a 286-pass attempt sample size. We can't ignore it, though. Tannehill put his name on the record books, as his 117.5 QB Rating in 2019 ranks as the fourth-best all-time. His 0.67 fantasy points per actual pass attempt ranked as the fourth-best mark over the last 10 years. What made it all that more impressive is that he was sacked every 10.8 dropbacks, which was the third-most often in the league. By comparison, Drew Brees was sacked every 32.5 dropbacks. So, that leaves us saying, "Okay, we know there'll be regression, but how much?" Under Mike Vrabel, the Titans have run exactly 58.8 plays per game in each of his first two seasons as head coach. We know they want to be a run-first team, right? That's why the pass attempts have been 432 in 2018 and 448 in 2019. That's a problem. For the sake of argument, let's raise that number to 500, which would be a massive difference. Even assigning Tannehill a number of 8.3 yards per attempt (Patrick Mahomes' number from 2019), it would amount to 4,150 yards. Then let's say he throws a touchdown on 5.0 percent of his passes (Dak Prescott from 2019). That would amount to 25 touchdowns. So, 4,150 passing yards and 25 touchdowns while comparing him to Mahomes and Prescott, while raising his pass attempts up to 500? Do you see why it makes little sense to think Tannehill even approaches top-10 territory? By comparison, Tom Brady threw for 4,057 yards and 24 touchdowns last year - he was hardly usable. Treat Tannehill as a streamer and you'll be happy. He's a great No. 2 quarterback to have in Superflex/2QB leagues because he's locked into the job and has shown top-five upside, even if it's highly improbable.

Ryan Tannehill was the first overall quarterback overall in True Throw Value in 2019 (brotofantasy.com), which means he was the most efficient fantasy QB in the entire league. He was a top 5 QB over the back half of the season. His ADP is far too low.

10th in FPPG last season for QBs. 1st in True Throw Value (Brotofantasy.com). Another year with his young stud WR teammate and a sneaky rushing ability. Tannehill is a very good late-round choice.

Ben's currently being drafted outside the top-12 QBs, but he has an extremely favorable matchup in Week 1 against the Giants. Having missed most of 2019 due to injury makes his value a major a question mark right now, but taking a shot on him could pay off in a big way right out of the gates.Due to the lack of pure passing volume in this offense, Tannehill's unlikely to be a consistent fantasy option in 2020. While Tannehill was excellent for fantasy last season, he did that on the back of incredible efficiency and that's hard to project forward again this season.

The Draft Zone
Back in 2018 when Ben Roethlisberger was healthy, the Steelers were the most pass-heavy team when the game was within a score (66.4%) and they were No. 1 in pass rate when trailing (81.5%). @YardsPerGretchTanny was the QB9 in ppg last year.

A career year in terms of underlying QB statistics that undoubtedly help lead a hyper efficient offense. Not sure what reasons we would have for any kind of major drop-off to make us not want to smash the draft button at his current ADP. Injuries are what have marred the 31 year old's career up to this point. He thrived with Gase when healthy and was always a favorite breakout candidate. He's had his breakout, with great QB metrics and a rushing floor and now he's being drafted as QB19 in redraft? A major value, especially when you can consider the higher upside shots at more important positions it allows you to take while waiting on QB

Coming off an elbow injury that cost him his entire 2019 season, Roethlisberger is going to have to prove a lot of doubters wrong and show that he's still got it. It helps when you've got WR's like Juju Smith Shuster, Diontae Johnson, and rookie Chase Claypool. I expect Ben to be slinging it all season long for better or worse. Could be a volatile player to rely on.Ryan Tannehill was 2019's Cinderella story, coming off the bench to lead the Titans all the way to the AFC title game. His performance on the field was at times brilliant but for the most part, not fantasy relevant. The Titans run the ball too much for Tannehill to repeat his numbers for 2019 which is why he's someone I'd avoid unless you're in a pinch.

Returns to the TEN offense and system that made him a Top-3 QB from when he took over. Will be tough to retain his insane TD efficiency though, and the playoffs emphasized his low low floor whenever Henry takes over games completely on his own.
