FantasyPros
Cooks is one of the best deep-ball threats in the NFL, but he is similar to Cooper in that he is a little hit or miss in a run-heavy offensive scheme.Freeman battled injuries in 2018 and he played only 2 games. He has had RB1 value in the past when healthy, but he is a huge durability risk in 2019 coming off a knee injury.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Most wouldn't believe it, but 2018 was Cooks' most consistent season from a fantasy standpoint. That's impressive considering it was his first year in the offense while the other receivers had more experience. He finished as a WR2 or better in 53.3 percent of his games, which ranked 14th among wide receivers. With Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods getting theirs, it'll be hard for Cooks to get into elite territory, but knowing he was this consistent should give drafters confidence in taking him as a high-end WR2Do you remember Freeman's rookie year? Probably not, because it had him falling outside the top-35 running backs selected the following year. In that season, he totaled just 248 yards and one touchdown on 65 carries. That's significant because that's the only year he played under Dirk Koetter, who is now back in Atlanta as the coordinator. While Freeman will have a much bigger role, Koetter hasn't been able to boost a run-game during his time in Atlanta or Tampa Bay, so the ceiling has likely dropped for Freeman. And that's not to mention Ito Smith, whose role grew as the year went on in 2018
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
There was negligible difference between him and teammate Woods in fantasy last season - both were tucked right inside the top 20 in half-PPR FAN PPGProven fantasy RB Top 10 upside, and with T. Coleman off to SF, the backup vulture threat is less a threat than ever - it all comes down to health (if he plays close to a full season, he'll be a bargain)
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
It's all about health with Freeman. Tevin is gone and he has the skill-set of a feature back. I like him as a RB2. He just needs to stay on the field.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Cooks' lack of production in the fantasy playoffs may scare fantasy owners off, but it shouldn't. He's been remarkably consistent throughout his career, seeing at least 100 targets and totaling at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past four seasons. Although Cooper Kupp should be back and healthy, Cooks was actually better with Kupp on the field, so that shouldn't be a negative for fantasy owners. He's a safe WR2, who should give you steady production all year.Freeman missed almost all of last season due to injuries, but had put up anywhere between very good and elite seasons in the three prior years. With Tevin Coleman gone, Freeman should see an increaed workload, even with the presence of Ito Smith and others in the backfield. There are legitimate injury concerns with Freeman, but the Falcons may look to control the clock more and emphasize the run given their improved defense. All in all, Freeman makes a solid RB2, one with high upside.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Freeman is a solid option at his current ADP but there is some risk, obviously, after he missed all of last season. Koetter has also not really been known for his running game. With that being said, Freeman is also only a year removed from 1180/8 total in 14 games in 2017. He should have a solid weekly floor.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
- 4 straight 1,000 yard seasons. - 4 straight seasons playing all 16 games. - 5,147 yards and 32 touchdowns."Devonta Freeman is in good health and hasn't had any setbacks at the start of the preseason. Based on how he has practiced, Freeman should be in line for a bounce-back campaign."
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
I absolutely love Cook's 4th round ADP. This is guy who's posted four consecutive 1,100 yard seasons, even after playing with 3 different QB's! In fact, there have been just 5 players with at least 5,000 receiving yards and 30+ TD's before their age 26 season. Their names are Randy Moss, Larry Fitz, DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, and Brandin Cooks (Pat Thorman). We know for a fact that Cooks is going to have a massive role on an elite offense, and that's not even considering that Kupp won't be 100% to start the seasons. He's and elite WR, with an elite opportunity share, on an elite offense. Cooks is a lock in the 4th round. He should absolutely be going in the early third in all formats. If you like lengthy injury histories, then let me introduce you to Devonta Freeman! Freeman has suffered a pulled hamstring, a hip strain, an MCL sprain, a PCL sprain, a knee bruise, 3 separate concussions, a foot bruise and then finally lost most of last year due to sports hernia surgery. Aside from his terrible rookie season, he's been extremely productive whole he's been on the field. Now let's talk about his offensive coordinator. Dirk Koetter has returned as the team's OC. He had that job from 2012-2014, then he was hired as the Bucs OC in 2015, and then served as their head coach from 1016-2018. In that time here is where his teams have ranked in rushing yards per game: 27/32/24/4/25/27/28. So in other words, Freeman is a RB with a high likelihood of injury, on an offense run by a man that has no idea how to run the football. What Freeman has going for him is 1) His talent...and 2) There's no one behind him on the depth chart. They have a few guys who can join together to fill potential void if he goes down, but they don't have a single RB that's going to challenge him for touches. Therefore, as long as he stays healthy, he's going to crush.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Cooks has now been a top 13 fantasy receiver in four straight seasons so if you are suddenly expecting that to change, you might be disappointed. He will have to split the target share with Woods and Kupp, of course, but Cooks has managed to produce these big numbers despite averaging just 119 targets per season in that time. The Falcons have been banged up the last two years including Freeman himself but don't be surprised if this offensive line surges forward this year with all the talent they have. If that happens, Freeman could explode back into the top 10 fantasy running backs as we saw in 2015, 2016 and 2017 with his fantasy points per game.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
We've seemingly forgotten about Devonta Freeman after his injury plagued 2018 season. Now, Freeman stands "alone" in that Atlanta backfield and is an incredible value in redraft leagues with his current ADP. Freeman's a solid bet for 240 carries and an increased volume in the passing game due to Tevin Coleman's absence. I'm drafting him wherever I can.
