Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Aiyuk is a tough one to crack, as he exploded onto the fantasy scene last year, finishing with 583 yards and four touchdowns over his final seven games, but there were factors that helped him achieve those numbers. The major ones being the injuries to George Kittle and Deebo Samuel. There were just four games where the trio were on the field together, and during that time, Aiyuk saw just 21 targets (the lowest of the three) and had 13/189/1 combined in those games. To be fair, it was from Week 4-7, so it was very early in Aiyuk's rookie season, so it's possible he just hadn't earned the trust yet. There's a wide range of outcomes in his projections, going as high as a top-15 wide receiver, but also as low as a wide receiver in the WR30-36 range. You want equity when drafting, so taking Aiyuk as anything more than a WR3 when Kittle and Samuel are healthy is risky. It was going to be easy to name Shenault as a breakout candidate in 2021, as he was the clear-cut No. 2 option behind D.J. Chark on the Jaguars depth chart. Suddenly, the Jaguars have a new play-caller, a proven veteran receiver (Marvin Jones), and a first-round running back (Travis Etienne) they're calling a wide receiver. This has created some doubt in the role that Shenault will play under Urban Meyer. There's upside in selecting him as a bench receiver, though, as Trevor Lawrence should be a massive upgrade at quarterback, and it's not like Chark/Jones haven't dealt with injuries over the last couple years (Jones is also getting up there in age). Shenault is purely an upside pick that you stash on your bench until you find out just how he's being used.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Aiyuk had a very solid rookie season, with 60 catches for 748 yards. But his production came mostly when both Deebo Samuel and George Kittle were out of the lineup. That's not to take anything away from Aiyuk's talent - he can play outside or in the slot with ease (79% outside, 21% slot last year), and he's an excellent route-runner and fit for Kyle Shanahan's offense. He can and should be drafted as a borderline WR2. But the fact is that both Samuel and Kittle will command a significant target share, and the 49ers' quarterback situation is in flux. Aiyuk should be very solid this season, but unless there's an injury again to Samuel and/or Kittle, his upside is a bit capped.Shenault didn't exactly explode in his rookie year, but that was hardly his fault. Gardner Minshew, Jake Luton, and Mike Glennon combined to offer the worst quarterback play of any team in the league. Trevor Lawrence's arrival should help immensely even if he endures some rookie struggles, and, as he showed last year, Shenault can be used in a variety of creative ways, including the running game. The addition of Marvin Jones should push Shenault to the slot more often (he played on the outside 69% of the time last year), and that should be a good thing for his value. You'll be seeing Shenault on "breakout" lists a lot this year, and for good reason.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Aiyuk stepped into a majority role in Week 4 of last season. From a Fantasy Points Per Game perspective, Aiyuk was the WR15 from Weeks 4-16! While Samuel and Kittle being in and out of the lineup certainly helped him reach that status, Aiyuk was dominant as a rookie. Heading into 2021, the 49ers are going to experience a change at QB at some point during the season. With Lance's skillset, Aiyuk could potentially breakout in a big way this upcoming season. He'll have to do it on the back of high efficiency, as he's not going to see the type of volume that other receivers in the league will, but he has the talent to maximize his opportunity. He might not have top-12 upside due to the volume concerns, but Aiyuk's going to deliver you some potential matchup-winning performances throughout the year. He's someone I'd be thrilled to get as a WR3 on my roster if his current ADP holds.Shenault's been garnering a ton of hype coming out of Jaguars' camp and he should have every opportunity to carve out a significant role for himself in this offense this season. There's a possibility that the targets go Etienne's way versus Shenault's, but he's the perfect option to take a shot on in the mid-to-late rounds of your draft to see how things play out. He could be a steal at his price tag this off-season.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Ultimate "Chess Piece" for Urban Meyer, who has maximized these type of players (Percy Harvin, Curtis Samuel) throughout OSU tenure... claims that ETN will be this role have tempered my enthusiasm, but Viska has been the highlight of early spring
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
I expect Aiyuk to take a major jump in year 2. He started coming on late in the season. He's had a full offseason to get comfortable with the playbook. 2020 was brutal for rookies trying to learn plays with covid protocols. Aiyuk has some serious juice when he runs. He's great in the open field. Coach Shanahan also used him on running plays, which led to two TDs. This kid is going to be a good one. The comp scouts gave him coming out of college was Torry Holt. That's pretty good company to be in.Shenault- sounds like the make of a car, gets an upgrade at QB with heralded rookie Trevor Lawrence. Laviska had injury issues in college. Can he hold up? He's done well in OTA's, but will have to compete for targets with D.J. Chark and Marvin Jones. Fantasy warranty (good for up to 500 yards) costs extra.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Brandon Aiyuk was stellar with 154.5 fantasy points in 12 games playing with mostly backup quarterbacks. He has monster upside entering his second year.
