Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Hall is too high of a pick in the NFL Draft to come in as the backup to Michael Carter. I think Hall starts the season as the Jets RB1 and he would have low-end RB2 value with upside as the starting running back on a young offense that is on the rise. | Gibson was a little injury prone last year, but he battled through it and finished with 1,180 yards from scrimmage and 9 touchdowns in the fantasy season. The biggest concern for him is being able to handle a lead back role and stay healthy and Brian Robinson Jr. could push him for touches this year. Gibson is becoming a risky flex option. |
Derek Brown FantasyPros | Antonio Gibson has been a solid option over the last two seasons as the RB16 and RB17 in fantasy points per game. He also ranked tenth in yards per route run, fifth in evaded tackles, and 14th in juke rate. He was tied for seventh in carries inside the five-yard line and eighth in weighted opportunities. We already know the pass game usage is capped with J.D. McKissic resigned, but now the goalline could be in jeopardy with Brian Robinson on the depth chart. The team has talked about lightening Gibson's load, so the threat of Robinson is real, especially if Gibson keeps putting the ball on the turf. Since 2020 he's tied with Ezekiel Elliott for the most fumbles (six) in the NFL among running backs.
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | My highest-ranked rookie running back is Breece Hall. The Jets selected the Iowa State product at the top of Round 2, signifying his status as the team's locked-in RB1 for the foreseeable future. Hall's three-down skill set suggests he never has to come off the field, and the sheer volume he garners will vault him into redraft top-20 running back territory. The Iowa State product totaled over 4,500 yards from scrimmage, 50 touchdowns and 80 catches over three seasons in the college ranks. A workload of approximately 240 touches - based on ESPN fantasy analyst Mike Clay's projections and how many touches the cumulative Jets RB1 earned last season - would place Hall inside the top-15 considering every running back last season that hit that threshold finished inside that ranking. 2021 fourth-rounder Michael Carter had his moments as a rookie, but the Jets know he's just a No. 2 running back. Anticipate Hall to shoulder 15-20 touches per game based on the workload that Carter received last season when Tevin Coleman missed time. From Weeks 7-9 with Coleman sidelined, Carter averaged 19 touches per game and a 66% snap share. Upon Coleman's return from injury in Week 10, Carter averaged 14 touches per game and a 55% snap share in the games they played together.
Nick Spencer Fantasy Six Pack | Even more competition added to the backfield, possibly losing goal line and receiving work, not touching him.
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 8/16: Running behind Carter in first team offense in games & practice. I think it flips, but this could be more of an RBBC than I originally anticipated. Doesn't seem sexy, but Jets ranked 7th in RB tgts & 11th in PFF line grade before making vast improvements. Love t. | 8/16: Fumbles & looks sluggish in preseason opener, whereas Robinson comes in and impresses, and is then talked about. I just can't avoid Gibson any harder. 5/2: Brian Robinson added as competition w/ McKissic already returning. Will he ever be a true featured guy?! |
Kevin Wheeler The Draft Zone | 6'1 / 220 LBS / 20 years old, Iowa State, 4.39-second 40-yard dash and a 40.0-inch vertical jump. | Larky is calling for us to fade Gibson. "Gibson and JD McKissic played 10 healthy games together in 2021 Gibson saw more than 3 targets just ONCE in those 10 games. Washington drafted bruising RB Brian Robinson in round 3, who's expected to see short-yardage work." Considering he's a 24-year-old, 228-pounder with 93rd percentile athleticism, I still find it difficult to let him slide past the sixth round, he still has the talent to break into that top-tier RB even if we think he has a cloudy touch/target share. Last year he finished 18th among RBs in half-PPR PPG, 11th in expected half-PPR PPG, played most of the season with a stress fracture in his shin * Currently going in the 8th round in some drafts on Underdog x |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | He's RB22 on this board, which may be conservative considering the top RB selected in each of the past 7 NFL drafts have finished no worse than RB21 | Is No. 10 at RB in PPR fantasy points over the past 2 seasons - he can afford to cede touches to rookie Brian Robinson and still easily deliver RB2 returns |
