FantasyPros
Ridley had 64 receptions for 821 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns last year. He is a solid WR3 bet that will likely have less touchdowns in 2019, but more receptions and receiving yards.Johnson becomes the lead back in Houston with RB Lamar Miller lost for the season. He should have RB3 value with upside, even with the addition of RB Carlos Hyde. Hyde should simply be a veteran presence to give Johnson a breather and offer a change of pace.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It's not often we see a rookie wide receiver make an impact in fantasy football the way Ridley did, especially when there's a stud wideout on the other side of the field like Julio Jones. Despite that, Ridley popped-off for 821 yards and 10 touchdowns, finishing as the WR20. While some would expect him to build on that, the Falcons aren't likely to throw the ball as much as they did in 2018 due to their defensive stars being healthy again. He should offer a bit more consistency, though, and if something were to happen to Jones, he'd immediately be a top-15 play every weekIn case you missed it, Johnson was traded to the Texans. You also may have missed the fact that Lamar Miller tore his ACL during their third preseason game. Unless the Texans trade for a running back, Johnson is walking into a 15-plus touch role on one of the league's best offenses. He could post RB2 numbers if they don't add anyone of significance. *UPDATE* The Texans traded for Carlos Hyde, which bodes well for Johnson considering Hyde has been among the least efficient running backs over the last two years.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Last season Ridley played just 61% of the Falcons snaps. Most consider him to be the clear-cut #2 in Atlanta, but outside of a few big flashes, Ridley was the #3 option for Matt Ryan behind Sanu. That should change this year, but with Julio hogging the majority of the targets, Ridley's upside is still stunted. With Lamar Miller out for the season, Duke is the favorite to lead this team in touches. They brought in Carlos Hyde via trade and while you may think he is a lock to be the early-down back, Duke can handle a three-down workload as we saw in college when he touched the ball 22 times per game. He comes with both risk and upside, making him a worthwhile mid-round pick.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Moves up a few spots if HOU doesn't add a legit RB challenger via trade or a cut-casualty - moves down a few spots if they do
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
I'm not sure yet what to do with Duke. All I know is he needs to be drafted/owned with all of Houston's running backs dead.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
I already had Duke in my top 25 after being traded to Houston, with the Lamar Miller injury he has the potential to be a top 10 RB, but I can't draft him before the 6th round. I expect he can carry the workload and last 16 games that is why I have him ranked above the rest of the RB's in tier 3, but he has no chance of entering tier two before the season starts.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Ridley scored 10 touchdowns as a rookie, a remarkable total, and showed elite skills as a receiver. But he was the model of inconsistency, as five of those 10 touchdowns came in a two-game stretch. With another year under his belt, expect an increase in both the 92 targets and 64 receptions he had last year. He's a solid WR2 with upside.Johnson's value has changed drastically this preseason, first with the move to the Texans and now with Lamar Miller's (likely) torn ACL. Houston will surely add running back depth at this point, but Johnson is big enough to handle an every-down workload. Particularly in PPR or 0.5 PPR formats, he should be drafted as a rock solid RB2.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Calvin Ridley had an awesome rookie season going 64/821/10, including the one game he absolutely torched the Saints for 146 yards and three TDs. The only problem is that he was an extremely volatile option. He ended within the top 20 overall WRs five times and outside the top 45 eight times. Hooper is expected to take another step up in the offense and Sanu will continue to be a thorn in the side for fantasy production. I just don't see how he makes a big jump, especially when he was so productive in the TD department.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Ridley is the 22nd WR off the board in .5 PPR leagues. Last season, he played in 62% of the falcons plays and had 92 targets. He ended with 10 TDs but was still, at times, playing second fiddle to Mohammed Sanu (The GOAT QB). If Ryan regresses and Ridley's efficiency decreases, Ridley will be a WR4. I'm not comfortable with him as my WR2.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Calvin Ridley is an extremely interesting pick this season. There doesn't seem to be any buzz around him, even after his great rookie season. He finished with a 64/821/10 stat line in his first season, and while the per reception TD rate is going to regress, there's plenty of room for his volume to increase. Ridley commanded 92 targets last year, while only playing on 62% of Matt Ryan's snaps. We should expect that number to be at least 80% this season, leading to a much larger target market share. As it currently stands, I have Ridley with an extremely reasonable 18.5% target market share, and 10% regression on his TD's per reception. Under those settings he's projected to finish with a 70/881/9.5 stat line...which is the 17th highest projection among WR's. Yet he's being drafted as the WR 26. That's great value!Duke Johnson has been traded from the Browns to the Texans...which is great for his fantasy outlook. The Browns never used him enough, and given what the Texans gave up to get him, I expect them to give him a decent role in the offense. The Texans line is bad, but Duke doesn't get his value on the ground. He'll be the team's new third down back, and they should find themselves trailing more than they did last season.
