Lineups
The Rams cut Todd Gurley, a former Offensive Player of the Year, this offseason, leaving behind a confusing three-man backfield. Malcolm Brown is supposedly the starter, but second-year Darrell Henderson and rookie Cam Akers are the guys with clear upside. Akers is a phenomenal talent who should win the starting job, it's just unclear how long it will take as he gets used to NFL pass protection and pass-catching. He's a great high-upside pick in the middle rounds.I loved the Devin Singletary breakout last season and I believe in the Bills as a dark horse Super Bowl contender this season. However, the drafting of Zack Moss will impact Singletary's workload as Moss is a talented player with three-down potential. This is going to be more of a committee than most expect , and we shouldn't expect this to be a high-octane offense. Singletary will be serviceable but there's guys I'd rather have in his range.
John Hesterman
Dynasty League Football
Reports out of camp have indicated that Singletary is struggling with fumbling issues. While he may open the season as the starter, Zack Moss could gain a leg up if Singletary continues to struggle with protecting the football.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Although Akers has the raw tools to be a star, Florida State wasn't very creative with him in the passing game. That isn't likely to be a problem in an offense run by Rams head coach Sean McVay, who is likely to lean heavily on Akers in 2020.A compact, slippery back who effectively picks his way for yardage between the tackles, Singletary showed the ability as a rookie to be surprisingly effective through contact. Reports from training camp suggest that Zack Moss could earn enough playing time to limit Singletary's breakout upside.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
The Rams were going to draft a running back - we knew that after they interviewed a ton of them in the draft process. What we didn't know was that they'd take one with their first pick in the draft. While Darrell Henderson is a threat to Akers' overall workload, they clearly know what they have in Henderson, and drafted Akers early. It seems like Henderson is going to be the lesser part of the timeshare, while Akers is the early-down back and likely to receive goal-line work. There's a chance Henderson has a bigger role than anticipated, which prevents us from trusting Akers as anything more than a high-end RB3.There were many celebrating the end of the Frank Gore era in Buffalo, but they went out and added one of my favorite backs in the draft, Zack Moss, to use in that Gore role. GM Brandon Beane said, "I think more of the goal line and things like that as we did with Frank last year, you'll see Zack do. I think Devin will do a similar role that he had." This is your reminder that Singletary had just two carries inside the five-yard-line all year, while Josh Allen had five, and Frank Gore had 11. That's a crushing blow to Singletary's value.
Rob Wilson
The Fantasy Footballers
Potential three down workhorse on a dynamite offenseChance to be an underrated asset due to the Zack Moss hype. Solid RB3 target in the middle rounds
Frank Bonincontri
Fantasy Wire HQ
The selection of Zach Moss in the draft signals a commitment to Singletary (again) not getting goalline work for a second season. I love Singletary as a bye week fill in only for fantasy purposes. If he is there in the draft, ehhhhhh we'll see but I would likely scoop a few others over him.
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
Incredible RB prospect who has opportunity to play as a rookie. In an explosive offense who profiles as a workhorse. Should be amongst the top RBs in the game within a few short years. Banking on upside here and the profile to win out.Efficient rookie RB who started slowly becoming a workhorse as the season finished last year. We want to be chasing efficiency, but also have to take into account that they drafted Zack Moss who will likely take the goal line work away. Not as much upside here, but should be a serviceable RB.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Both in reality and fantasy, Cam Akers is one of the most exciting rookies coming into the league. He enters an offense that desperately needs a new face at the RB position and I expect Akers to be that guy. Due to COVID, it may take a few weeks, but Akers should finish the season as the clear RB1 on the Rams and has top-24 fantasy potential as well.Singletary dealt with Frank Gore and injuries in 2019 and he still managed to score over 11 fantasy points per game. Now he's the clear-cut lead back in an ascending offense. I like Singletary as a low-end RB2/ high-end flex.

My bet for rookie RB to see most touches - skills to be a featured back (with a little pass game improvement), and team clearly lacks confidence in D. Henderson in that role4th in Breakaway% (runs of 15+ yards) - Rookie Moss likely to take F. Gore's role but Singletary should push 250 touches while making strides in the pass game

The Rams may have as many as four members in their RBBC, Akers is the early favorite to be the lead back in one of the most intriguing timeshare situations in the NFL.

Akers was a 5-star HS recruit, played behind one of the worst O-Lines in the country at FSU and still put up 1,100 and 8 his freshman year. He can rush, pass, and block, is durable, and was a 2nd round pick by a team that had just spent a 3rd round pick on a RB the year prior. Plus, even in a down year last season, Gurley put up 14 TDs in that offense. Akers is a RB2 with high-end RB1 upside.

This is one of the most puzzling selections to me in the entire draft. While I wasn't a huge Akers fan heading into the draft, I believed he could have value as a pass-catching back or a player that would thrive being moved out into space. Darrell Henderson is still there and could be the 1st/2nd down back, while Akers assumes the 3rd down work. However, this OL is still horrendous and is not going to help these RBs at all. This could be a David Montgomery type selection in year one, where the talent level is there, but the OL just simply can't hold up. Akers is a very risky pick in Dynasty leagues.Singletary will remain in his change-of-pace role with Zack Moss now in town. Singletary should hover around the RB2/RB3 border all season long.

Cam Akers has the easiest path to a featured role among these rookie RBs in terms of proven competition in their backfield. Akers also happens to be a baller. @IhartitzDevin Singletary had just 3 rush attempts inside the 10. Frank Gore (18) & Josh Allen (11) combined for 29 rush att inside the 10. Combined this would have ranked 5th in the NFL in 2019. With Zack Moss assuming the 'Frank Gore' role, we probably won't see Singletary's upside in 2020. @TheFantasyPT

The Fantasy First Down
Despite being 7th in total yards, the Rams somehow managed to give only 1500 of them to their RBs. While that's less than ideal, there is room for growth. There are rumblings that the Rams want to do more on the ground and with Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown proving underwhelming to this point, it's entirely possible that by halfway through the season, this is Cam Akers's backfield. Given the huge TD and fantasy point upside that role has previously held, a return to form for the Rams could make the young rookie a fantasy stud. Be very aware that he'll start the season slowly but he could rumble home with a head of steam if things fall his way.Devin Singletary had a truly bizarre 2019, splitting touches 180-179 with plodder Frank Gore, getting only 4 touches inside the 10-yard line and only getting 29 receptions. So while Zack Moss will surely have a more meaningful role than Gore, it's likely Singletary will have more touches in 2020, with 200 a reasonable number. Sadly, while his receptions may slightly increase, as one of the league's smallest backs it's highly unlikely he'll get any of the valuable goal line touches. His only path to true upside is a Moss injury, as 2019 proved even a mediocre performance by his teammate won't lead to Singletary becoming a workhorse. Don't get sucked into the hype, Devin's at best a low-RB2 and that would require improvement on last season.

Frank Gore out rushed him 166-151. If he returns, I think that number goes Singletary's way. He was far more efficient with his carries. My Only worry is that the team might not let him get over 200 touches often because of his size, but that's not up to me. He paced at just over 200 carries in 12 games but this with getting minimal work in his first 4 games. Was on pace for 262 after the first 4 games played.
