Lineups
The Rams cut Todd Gurley, a former Offensive Player of the Year, this offseason, leaving behind a confusing three-man backfield. Malcolm Brown is supposedly the starter, but second-year Darrell Henderson and rookie Cam Akers are the guys with clear upside. Akers is a phenomenal talent who should win the starting job, it's just unclear how long it will take as he gets used to NFL pass protection and pass-catching. He's a great high-upside pick in the middle rounds. It feels like I'm the only one who's still in on Sony Michel for this season. Yes, he's injured, and yes, the Patriots offense is going to get worse without Tom Brady. However, Bill Belichick made Michel a first-round pick and has given him the full workload for the majority of his time on the field. If Michel can stay healthy, he should benefit from playing next to a mobile QB in Cam Newton, and he could easily surpass 250 touches.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Michel has justifiably fallen out of favor for fantasy owners after yet another sub-par year, and there's little excitement about him this year. He has averaged nearly 16 carries per game in his career, however, and may be asked to carry more of a load now that Tom Brady is no longer under center. But his upside is limited by his complete lack of involvement in the passing game, as he has just 31 targets and 19 receptions over his 29 career games. In standard scoring leagues, there's a chance he may be slightly undervalued given that Damien Harris was placed on IR and Lamar Miller was released, but it would be hard to rely on him as anything more than a bench player in or half- or full-PPR leagues. That's especially true given his foot surgery in May which could impact him early in the season.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Although Akers has the raw tools to be a star, Florida State wasn't very creative with him in the passing game. That isn't likely to be a problem in an offense run by Rams head coach Sean McVay, who is likely to lean heavily on Akers in 2020.Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels prefers a running scheme heavy on gap blocking, and Michel is a great fit for that approach. It's his lack of involvement in the passing game that will continue to limit his fantasy upside, especially in PPR leagues.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
The Rams were going to draft a running back - we knew that after they interviewed a ton of them in the draft process. What we didn't know was that they'd take one with their first pick in the draft. While Darrell Henderson is a threat to Akers' overall workload, they clearly know what they have in Henderson, and drafted Akers early. It seems like Henderson is going to be the lesser part of the timeshare, while Akers is the early-down back and likely to receive goal-line work. There's a chance Henderson has a bigger role than anticipated, which prevents us from trusting Akers as anything more than a high-end RB3.After a somewhat disappointing rookie campaign where he failed to finish as a top-24 running back despite racking up 209 carries in the high-scoring Patriots offense, Michel had an even worse sophomore campaign, averaging just 3.7 yards per carry and scoring just seven touchdowns on 259 touches. The Patriots spent a first-round pick on him, so he'll be given every opportunity to succeed, but they won't allow him to be inefficient much longer with Damien Harris waiting in the wings. Michel simply hasn't been the player we watched at Georgia. It's hard to see losing Tom Brady actually help him become more efficient. Not only that, but he now has to worry about Cam Newton stealing goal-line touches.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Despite being 7th in total yards, the Rams somehow managed to give only 1500 of them to their RBs. While that's less than ideal, there is room for growth. There are rumblings that the Rams want to do more on the ground and with Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown proving underwhelming to this point, it's entirely possible that by halfway through the season, this is Cam Akers's backfield. Given the huge TD and fantasy point upside that role has previously held, a return to form for the Rams could make the young rookie a fantasy stud. Be very aware that he'll start the season slowly but he could rumble home with a head of steam if things fall his way.The Damien Harris hype is building as Sony Michel battles to be ready for Week 1. He's becoming more of a low-upside gamble by the day but will provide some upside if you get him late enough in drafts.

Potential three down workhorse on a dynamite offense
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
Incredible RB prospect who has opportunity to play as a rookie. In an explosive offense who profiles as a workhorse. Should be amongst the top RBs in the game within a few short years. Banking on upside here and the profile to win out.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Both in reality and fantasy, Cam Akers is one of the most exciting rookies coming into the league. He enters an offense that desperately needs a new face at the RB position and I expect Akers to be that guy. Due to COVID, it may take a few weeks, but Akers should finish the season as the clear RB1 on the Rams and has top-24 fantasy potential as well.Few players are more difficult to gauge than Sony Michel. He can score three TD's one week and then have a total of 26 yards the next. In PPR formats he simply doesn't see the ball enough to considered a starter.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
My bet for rookie RB to see most touches - skills to be a featured back (with a little pass game improvement), and team clearly lacks confidence in D. Henderson in that role
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
The Rams may have as many as four members in their RBBC, Akers is the early favorite to be the lead back in one of the most intriguing timeshare situations in the NFL.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Akers was a 5-star HS recruit, played behind one of the worst O-Lines in the country at FSU and still put up 1,100 and 8 his freshman year. He can rush, pass, and block, is durable, and was a 2nd round pick by a team that had just spent a 3rd round pick on a RB the year prior. Plus, even in a down year last season, Gurley put up 14 TDs in that offense. Akers is a RB2 with high-end RB1 upside. No thanks. No thanks. No thanks. There's no hidden value here. This is a guy who averaged 3.7 yards per carry on a decent offense last year and has never surpassed 7 TDs in a season. With the best goal-line running QB in NFL history leading the way now, Michel is best left off of your squad.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
This is one of the most puzzling selections to me in the entire draft. While I wasn't a huge Akers fan heading into the draft, I believed he could have value as a pass-catching back or a player that would thrive being moved out into space. Darrell Henderson is still there and could be the 1st/2nd down back, while Akers assumes the 3rd down work. However, this OL is still horrendous and is not going to help these RBs at all. This could be a David Montgomery type selection in year one, where the talent level is there, but the OL just simply can't hold up. Akers is a very risky pick in Dynasty leagues. With Cam Newton behind center, this offense is going to be much more potent than it would have been with Jarrett Stidham. This benefits Michel with more scoring opportunities and trips into the red zone. However, the downside is that Newton has the size and power to take away some of those goal line touches. Michel's nothing more than a RB3 this season, in my opinion.

Cam Akers has the easiest path to a featured role among these rookie RBs in terms of proven competition in their backfield. Akers also happens to be a baller. @IhartitzMichel recovering from foot surgery, per sources. The surgery was viewed as more maintenance-based to relieve discomfort. How Michel's rehab progresses will determine if he opens training camp on PUP. @MikeReiss - I don't think he starts the season on PUP. I'm like being able to get him in the 8th-9th round.

*Update - Latest foot surgery extra concerning* Perhaps the Pats go run-obsessed in the Post Brady era? Nothing to really dig in and love here in such a messy RBBC, and wouldn't be surprised if Damien Harris pushes for the big back this year much harder.

I've had 475 total touches in my first 2 years despite missing 3 games, but have finished as RB28, and 29 in those 2 years. Who am I? And why am I so bad?
