Breaking Football
All the hype behind Wentz feels real. He's over a year removed from his knee injury and should be confident again. Getting D-Jax and upgrades at RB won't hurt, either.Big Ben is still fantastic and his supporting cast - contrary to popular belief - is loaded. He'll be right around the top-5, if not better.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
When Wentz is healthy, he's a lock to put up QB1 numbers with upside for more. With DeSean Jackson added, Wentz has an additional deep threat, and the offense should drop plenty of points each game. But he's missed eight games over the last two seasons, and the injury risk can't be ignored at this point. Add that all up and Wentz is a mid-to-low-end QB1, worth drafting in all formats.Roethlisberger threw the ball 675 times last year for 5,129 yards and 34 touchdowns, all easily career highs. But what happens when you take away Antonio Brown, with whom Roethlisberger had an incredible connection and without whom, Roethlisberger's efficiency dropped like a rock? The answer is that unless you buy James Washington or Donte Moncrief as the second coming, you drop him in your rankings precipitously. Roethlisberger still has plenty of skills and will almost certainly continue to exploit the right matchup, particularly at home. But without Brown, fantasy owners shouldn't come close to valuing him as a QB1. particularly since he is now 37 years old.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
In the 11 weeks Wentz was healthy last season, he was the QB15 thanks to a greatly diminished TD-rate (as expected). With that said, he was even more efficient than his 2017 MVP campaign so there is more upside. The concern, of course, is that Wentz is still not healed from the back injury that kept him out at the end of the season so be sure to monitor that as your fantasy draft draws near.Six hundred and seventy five. That's how many pass attempts Big Ben threw in 2018. That number is going to drop, perhaps even by 100 so don't be expecting another 5,000 yards or another QB3 fantasy performance on the season. With that said, when Big Ben has been on the field, he is a consistent top 15 option so we ought to plan for much of the same even despite the decrease in volume and the loss of Antonio Brown.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Wentz had some of the same consistency issues that Texans QB Deshaun Watson had returning from ACL surgery and Wentz also dealt with other injuries, causing him to miss 5 games. I think he will be a much different QB in 2019 with these injury issues hopefully behind him.Big Ben had 5,129 yards passing, 34 passing touchdowns and he was the 3rd ranked fantasy quarterback. The loss of WR Antonio Brown will hurt his fantasy value, but Big Ben should still be a high-end QB2 with QB1 upside in favorable matchups. It speaks to the depth of the quarterback position that he is not ranked in the Top-10.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
All about health. We have seen what Wentz can do when healthy. He can be a top 5 QB if health permits, but that is a big if.Big Ben threw for over 5000 yards last season on a ridiculous 675 attempts, both numbers can obviously not be expected again this year, but Big Ben is a beast of a QB and I do expect the Steelers will need to pass a lot this season again. Yes, AB is gone, but Juju is an absolute beast, Vance will be more involved and one of Washington or Moncrief should be able to make some plays on the outside. Regressions is being overly accounted for, he is still a rock solid QB1 and the reason why you don't tale a QB early.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Wentz was having an MVP season in 2017 and then came back from injury in 2018 and was better in many statistical aspects. His TD% decreased, but I'd count on it being higher this season with the addition of Desean Jackson. DJax has improved the yards per attempt of almost every QB he's every played with and yards per attempt is a key statistic for measuring the success of a QB. Wentz's upside is sky high.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
If you were to put Wentz's numbers up against the career of this decade's fantasy starters, his closest comparison would be Tony Romo. During his career, Romo posted QB1-type numbers 45 percent of the time, which is precisely what Wentz has done in his three years. Wentz hasn't offered the upside that some of the quarterbacks above him in the rankings, but he should provide high-end QB2-type production at year's endLosing Antonio Brown won't do Roethlisberger any favors and it's not as if he was a lock to finish top-10 before then. In fact, Roethlisberger has finished inside the top 10 quarterbacks just four times in his 15-year career. You thought he had ups and downs before? He's not worth the headache and we're surprised many experts are willing to invest a top-12 quarterback selection on him
Sean Koerner
The Action Network
going to be hurt a bit by AB gone. regress from career high in pass attempts, pass TDs, rush TDs (3). don't want to overweight last year's finish. only played 16 games 4 of 15 seasons
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
I think people forget how good Carson Wentz is. He was the clear cut MVP in 2017 before tearing his ACL, then he posted a 21/7 TD/INT rate in his 11 healthy games last season, finishing with over 300 yards or multiple scores in 8/11 weeks. He opens this season fully healthy, and is currently 4th in MVP odds. The offense also upgraded in the offseason. Not only has Alshon/Ertz/Agholor all returned...but Goedert is now set to take a step forward in his second season, the traded for DeSean Jackson (who's still an elite field stretcher), they signed Jordan Howard in FA, and they drafted both Miles Sanders and J.J. Arcega Whiteside. These are elite offensive weapons, and the Eagles have PFF's top rated offensive line. I expect the Eagles to make another Super Bowl run...and I expect Carson Wentz to be the driving force behind it.I was all in on Big Ben last season. I predicted he would lead the league in passing for the first time in his career, and I beat the drum hard for him as an under valued QB. This season though, I'll be passing. I just can't justify drafting him as the 13th QB in the 9th round. There are a million QB options this season, so spending a 9th round pick on a QB that doesn't run the ball, and just lost their top WR is a losing strategy. He could absolutely be amongst the league leaders in passing again. But the more likely scenario is that they run the ball more, he loses some efficiency, and finishes as more of a streaming option than a full time fantasy starter. He's going to win someone a million dollars one week. But he's also going to have some dumpster fire performances. It's a no for me this season.
